how many religions have a " god/father figure " and a "chosen one/son figure "
it seems to me that so many religions are speaking of the same thing but with different names ..
not just the figures , but philosophies and teachings , predictions of second comings , past historical events etc
i do wonder if at one point everyone was told the same thing , and due to cultural and language differences , these things got just a little like chinese whispers and changed ever so slightly from person to person ..
it seems everyone really believes in the same thing
what do you think ?

Yes, I agree Pangel, the essence of religion/spirituality, is love for God and non violence/compassion towards all living entities, of course fundamental religionists will never agree with this view. This is the reason for so much conflict in the world, a clear analogy is :- One day an old man divided his children into two groups to massage each side of his body, after some time a disagreement arose between the two groups as to which was performing a better service, the disagreement then turned violent with each side beating the area that the other group were responsible for, to make their own group look better. This is the position of modern day religionists.

I think your on the right track, religion is a personal belief, the reason so many religions seem the same is because each was created by different people to explain the same occurrence. For example every religion or culture has a creation story, all involving divine intervention.
My opinion is we all believe the same things in the core beliefs, and all religions have fanatics that can make their religion as a whole look bad. But its the core beliefs we should focus on, cause when you break it down we're all sharing this planet, but no one has the power to determine what will happen to a person's soul after death, so why sweat which one of us is right. Instead celebrate the differences.

Let me see... humm.. The Father - Son figure sounds like Christianity. Now if you asked Muslims about a Son figure for God they will shout "blasphemer".. Surely you must die for suggesting this. Nice.. How about the Jews... Well, Moses gave them the law, but that nothing about a Son figure, and tells us nothing about the nature of God.
What else, Buddha, Hindus... Sorry, you find no Father - Son figures there.. I think there are some major differences.

well of course they do. Religion is mans attempt to deal with his mortality. So all of them believe in some life after death, whether heaven/nirvana/reincarnation etc etc. i'm not saying its not true, but i'd be surprised if anyone worshipped a religion saying when you die thats it. not very cheery is it?
oh and the next time i see some idiot claiming religion is behind all of mankinds wars i'm going to go mad.
religion is a handy rallying cry. Crusades were all about money and power. Militant islam is the answer to those living under opression. If anyone can tell me a war actually fought over religion i would be eternally grateful. never happen though

Nice to see your own thoughts being asked by people from the other side of the earth.. Christ has been spotted in India too, did you know? And there's a place where people still go to worship him unrelated with the biblic story from the "church". I'm not into Christ at all but i do believe that if he did excist he was probably saying what you are saying..

This is an interesting thought, but I'm not certain how much truth there is to it. I myself feel that the reason there are so many different religions, is because there are so many gods. I'm under the impression that in ancient times there were highly advanced alien beings on earth, who came here from other planets. Ancient people worshiped them as their gods.

Religion and spiritual belief comes not from what other people say from what they have heard rather, its something that comes from the inside of every individual. This individuality creates many beliefs just like what we see today. Just follow the golden rule easy road to salvation.

There's only one way. And to keep it simple is best. The Bible is God-Inspired, God Word, told to man. Add no more, subtract no less.
