are you left handed? I'm guessing you are having problems on the left side because it feels awkward and you aren't putting enough time on it.
have you tried rag rollers? take strips of rags or ribbons, fold them in half length wise with strips of hair in the middle then twist and twist until the hair is rolled up to the scalp (or lower if you want the curl to stop at a point) tie it into a knot or bow and leave them in overnight. It's a little uncomfortable but turns out nice. spritz a little hairspray before you untie the curlers for hold.
for a quicker results try hot rollers, or Velcro rollers. I use hot rollers, it takes practice to roll them in the same direction so play with it for a while. same deal, little bit of hairspray to keep the hold, or mousse after : spread it in your hand and crunch, don't smooth.

Hot rollers or large velcro rollers.
Hot Rollers-using the large ones take big sections and put them in (they don't have to be perfect sections) Wait 15 min and take them out. After hair is cool to touch-flip head upside down and toussle hair with hands then flip up and finger style curls into place.
Velcro Rollers can be used on wet or dry hair-Wet hair will give more curl, but takes awhile to dry. Either way style as above.

well I have dated many hair stylists....maybe I can help. I have heard about this problem. the most common mistake is to curl your hair the way all the way a round. for example you are right handed you will curl hair in that direction on both sides off your head. thus causing your hair to curl out on the right and in on the left.
I have also seen curlers that are the size of small tires that some women wear....lol
The bigger the curler the bigger the curl. I have seen many things in my life when it comes to hair ... im no expert but maybe its a place to start

Actually I have an idea that really works! This is a part of my routine for straightening my hair, but anyways...wash your hair, put some gel in it, comb out and put into big rollers or hot rollers (if you use regualr rollers then dry your head with a blowdryer until your hair is almost completely dry, if you use hot rollers then they will do this for you) then remove the rollers and voila! ...add some shine spray and use fingers to adjust how you like it! Good Luck!!!

Do it when your hair is wet. Your hair should agree better then. I heard foam curls work good. My cousin uses those and has huge, bouncy and loose curls.
Btw, Vanessa Hudgens is a good actress. 'Hope her solo album is good. :)

curl your hair by doing it the old fashion way, leave pin curls in over night, easy to sleep on too. the bigger the pin curl the looser the wave!!
