I'm and Engineer (Mechanical & Aerospace) - Project Coordinator
I have used autoCAD for over 10yrs...back to at least Release 11. So, I'm very good and fast in autoCAD. I was thinking it would be nice to be able to do some work on the side with it.
Does anyone do work on the side with AutoCAD for some extra cash? What do you do? How did you go about finding something to do?
Thanks

Got to love people with retarded responses. Was 3D in the question anywhere? For your information I am also as proficient in Solid Words and Pro-E along with in-depth PE Analysis with ANSYS.
But sorry, I don't have personal copies of $30,000 worth of software on my personal home computer. And saying that AutoCAD sucks shows how ignorant you are...it all depends on what you are doing and what you need to accomplish. I've been in plenty of situations where using a 3D software is a gross waste of time. But I probably should expect much more of a response from a bunch of kids pretending to know what they are talking about.

Call around, local architect and engineering firms are often desperate for a person who can do some "donkey work" for them but don't need to hire a full time person. Also, my hubby uses cad for piping and instrumentaions diagrams - biotech - he uses orthos and isos a lot for slope diagrams so call round them too.
In fact they don't even have to be local, I have friends who employ "virtual" part timers all over the world.
Good luck

Depends on what you can do.
Architectural and some mechanical engineering can be done on auto-cad. Do you work with Mechanical desktop?
The pharmaceutical industry and the medical field use auto-cad for some engineering.
My son uses catia for his job at Pratt & Whitney(Aerospace Engineer). He likes the auto-cad only to make prints look nice.
Check around on the internet and there are companies who need old prints put into a data base.
Good luck

Local Architects and Engineers may need someone to do details.
Also talk to some of the contacts you have in the industry. You may find that some of them have "overflow" work they could send you.
Lastly, sometimes salesmen need some work done. They are in the job selling whatever they sell but their customers sometimes want a drawing. Sometimes the company I work for gets work like this.
Also keeping up with AutoCAD upgrades can be expensive! You might want to consider one of the the knock offs.

ACAD sucks. Learn to design in a real 3d system and you can make some $ on the side. I might hire you.
