They may still be, but they're just afraid to admit that there is a higher power and they're doing something wrong.

I guess this question could be reversed to say if a believer in God was to have a moment of doubt in their belief would that make him or her an atheist. This is a good question, because Christians say that once you are a believer that God will always dwell within you. But, if you are an atheist, and have a moment where you doubt your beliefs, then I think for a moment that person is not an atheist, and that may be all it takes to change that person from being an atheist.

If a Christian doubts God for even a moment, like when God "allows" five children to die at the hands of an insane woman, then regains his/her faith, I'm sure they'd tell you they've always been Christian. And I'm sure you'd accept that.
So why would it be different for an athiest? A doubt is not a conversion, or a rejection. Just a question. The difference is, a non-christian doesn't feel guilty for having doubt about his/her chosen theology. A Christian not only feels guilty, but fears being eternally damned to hell by the God they love for having that human condition.

I have my own thoughts and ideas on things, but I have never once had doubts about my NON belief in a god... Someone who did would not be an actual atheist. Maybe an agnostic at best.

First you must assess the definition of atheism. "A-" means "no/none" and "-theism" means "god" (from Greek theos). This is very important to understand because it does not definitely define specific moments where this would occur. Atheism isn't the same as Antitheism (meaning "against god" or "against the idea of god").
Consider the moments of doubt as well. What caused them? Can you properly or scientifically denote what they mean? And probably most important, why did they happen? Answer these questions and you'll be able to actually determine your personal beliefs the way you want them.

some worship God some worship the devil, and some worship science. For the most part everyone thinks one of these are true. so let the ones that worship God study and learn about him and take part in all God has to offer. and the ones that believe in the devil do the same. and also the ones that believe in since. at the end of life we will all know the truth.are we can look for the truth while we are on earth and be open minded until we find the truth. I hope everyone finds the truth they are looking for and i have included this site as a place to start for some and a place to end for others that thank they know what is true good link http://the-heavenly-home-page.blogspot.com/

I do not believe that there is a real thing as a atheist. The apostle Paul said in Romans chapter 1 that the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness against those who hold the truth in unrighteousness. He goes on to say that all men have a knowlege that God exists, but turn their backs on Him.

technically, at the moment of his bout of doubt, he is an agnostic (or "not sure" or "questioning").
but, if he resolves his questions and goes back to being a solid atheist again, then he is an atheist. "atheist" just describes someone who has a certain set of ideas. but, ideas can change. most everyone changes their ideas over the course of their lifetime. it's not "once an atheist, always an atheist".

You either believe in God, or you don't, if you claim to be an Atheist and you're having these thoughts about God, i'd say you're not a true Atheist. Trust me, There is a God!

If a Christian ever doubted his belief in Christ, for a moment, is he a real Christian?
Hint: Both questions have the same answer.
