So far in 2 years my dog has had 7 seizures. I noticed if I take him to the park (which he loves), he will have one after running a lot. Once when I was giving him a shower, he had one. What can I do? It would be awful if he could not go to the park and run around anymore.

Go to the vet and have tests done. My dog also has a seizure disorder, so I know a little about this.
Your vet will do a series of tests to eliminate a few things. It could be anything from diabetes to blood clots in the brain causing the seizure, or, most likely, no cause can be found. That was the case with mine.
The vet can prescribe phenobarbitol for your dog if he feels that your dog is seizing frequently, but I doubt seven times in two years is frequent enough to warrant medication.
My dog was on it for a while and was taken off it about a year ago because it made her a total zombie. To my surprise, her seizures have stopped. It has been a year and a half since she had one.
Get your guy checked out and let your vet tell you where to go from there. Good luck.

Edit: Those who are telling you to give your dog things like pancake syrup are talking about diabetic seizures, or blood sugar related seizures. You don't know what's causing the seizures and you didn't mention what kind of seizures your dog is having.
My dog has grand mal (sp?) seizures. This is a seizure where the entire body seizes, the dog loses bodily function (wets himself, leaves puddle of drool), the jaw can lock and it can last several minutes. I wouldn't recommend putting anything in your dog's mouth during a grand mal seizure - especially not your fingers. When my dog has a seizure (she is only about 40 lbs.) I cradle her loosely in my arms and keep her head from hitting anything. When she starts to come out, I say her name softly until her tail wags in recognition.
Hope some of this helps.
Please check with your vet to find out exactly what's going on with your dog.
Sending best wishes.

Have the vet rule out any thing that could be causing the seizures.
If he can find no cause for the seizures, then they call them idiopathic.
I have a girl who was having idiopathic seizures. She was having 4 seizures a yr.
Read the Wisconsin University weblinks below

I have stopped all her vaccinations 3 1/2 yrs ago. She is now only having 2 seizures per yr for the last 2 yrs.

I have a golden retriever and he is prone to them as well. He has only had just a hand full that I have seen. Give him bananas it will help his potassium after a seizure. There is medication out there to control them but it is an every day pill and it expensive. My vet told us it really is not worth it for the few he has had. So it really depends on how often he has them. I don't know off hand but there may be some all natural remedy you can give him that may not be so expensive. I do not know if you do but take him some water to the park and take frequent breaks.

You need to take him to the vet to see what type of seizures he is having. If it is epilepsy, he will be given phenobarbital. It could also be diabetes, low blood sugar, or a heart condition. Once the vet determines what is causing the seizures, your dog should be able to go to the park and run around without the risk of a seizure.

You can only get phenobarbitol from the vet. It is a controlled drug. If you can get it from Petmeds or something, you still need a prescription from your vet and in some states, they are not required to do that for you.
He will also need the blood level of the drug checked every so often.
He really should see a vet. I cannot imagine having my dog go 2 years having seizures and doing nothing about it. I guess he has not SEEN a vet in 2+ years either, huh.

Wow 2 years and you still haven't taken him to the vet. Well first of all if you're dog is have seizures then it's most likely due to over excitement you need to regulate the amount of time he spends in an enviorment that excites him. And try to control you're own amount of excitement if he feels you're excitement it will only increase his own. And take him to see a vet right away he might not even be having seizures. When he has his next one make sure that he doesn't roll over which might twist his stomach which require surgery

Yes there is medication for him, first thing you need ti do is take him to the vet and him check out. That way the vet can prescribe the correct med for him to control the seizures.
Please note that once on an anti-seizure medication it will be a lifetime commitmit on your part to see that he gets it .

You can order seizure medicine from 1800petmeds or go to petsmart and get it. I personally think petmed's medicine is better than those in petsmart. However, if it happen to him so often, it is best to take him to the vet, he might have some genetic problem and need to have a specialist to help. I had a pug that was 10 months old when she passed away. She was extremely healthy and active all her life and one day she had a seizures after a long walks with me, my husband, and my other pug. We took her to the vet and that was the last walk that we had with her. The vet said she has genetic problems, if she didnt die and recover afterward, she should have a specialist to help her.

Take him to the vet and assess why he is having seizures. There is no over the counter medication or home remedy for this. If you had 7 seizures you would go to the doctor. Please treat your dog the same.

Have you taken him to the vet?
Sometimes when a dog has heartworms and gets over exerted or excited this can happen.

In any case you need to FIND THE CAUSE, and get him on medication.

TAKE HIM TO A VET.
