Any leak in a water pump will only get worse, and it usually will fail at the worst time. It is best to have it replaced as soon as possible.

if coolant is coming out of the weep hole you need a new one. If its leaking out of a gasket, you need a new gasket. And depending on the age of the pump, you might as well just replace it. 10 yrs old, get a new one. 4 yrs old, keep it. Since the pump will be removed your going to loose a fair amount of coolant, so you might as well flush out the system too. Make sure your thermostat is in good shape since everything is apart. Again, that depends on the age of the vehicle.
