The vet sells a product just for the biting flies. I bought some for my Rott because he was getting sores on his ears because of it. The stuff worked, but I later found out that petroleum jelly works just as well.

The only thing I have ever found to keep off the flies is Camphophenique. Get it at any drug store. It is about $3. for a small (green) bottle but it last a long time because it only takes a small amount. Just use a cotton ball and wipe it on the ears then down on his back , but not where he will be able to lick it. It is also the only thing I have used that would cure hot spots.

Equi-Gel our vet has it. It's a bottle of clear gel that is excellant keeps everything off, good for other animals too. It's not real expensive and you shoundn't use up too quickly it lasts a few days But you should put a layer of petroleum or nitrofurazone on first if his ears are already bit up to keep it from stinging. Just rub the Equi-gel on top Good luck

my outdoor lab had this same problem and he told us to put bag a balm on it. It comes in a small bottle, and looks like ear wax. It is really thick and sticky, so it won't come off once it is on. It don't hurt the dog at all, and it is really cheap!!!

You can put pop, it has to be sweet, into a jar w/ holes and put a piece of ham in it . Flies like that and end up drowing in the pop.
