I thought i would perfer a female, I just figured I could open up to some one of the same sex a little more easier because I tend to be very intimidated by males. But i am currently seeing a male psychologist, he is amazing and not only helping me deal with the obvious but has also showed me that there is nothing to be intimidated by when you tell a male your problems or just to have a laugh with.

u know, when i first thought about getting a shrink i wanted a female. i was strict on getting a female, because i thought a female would be more understanding. however, no female doc was available when i tried. so i ended up with a male shrink. and...i love it ! its great..i think i was being too judgemental with my shrink choices. when i first met with him, i was soo skeptical---i almost knew for sure that it wouldn't work out. not only is he a male, he's pretty young for a psychiatrist (about 29-30 yrs old)...and i wanted an older one. i wanted an older female, but instead i ended up with a young male. boy was i upset ! however, right after we had our first appointment, my dog (whom i loved very dearly) passed away. i guess i was really volnerable. so, i shared all my deepest feelings with him, and pretty soon, i began to like him a lot. i think he's the best doctor around! sooo, i started out very particular, but after my dog passed away and i got to know this male shrink, i really like him a lot. he's great. so now i don't care if he's a male, so what...it doesn't matter any more, he's just as good as any other female shrink :D

I feel that I am beyond the reach of any shrink, but here is the answer to your question--men are in general more reasonable. Women are more emotional. Therefore, when discussing anything at all, be it life, health or business, a man is preferable.

As a woman, I prefer a woman. I feel that another woman can understand a woman's troubles better. It is true that men and women are from different planets, and I don't want to talk to a Martian about my problems!

I'm female. I have seen 2 female therapists, 2 male therapists.


My preference doesn't split on gender lines. Some of them helped me more or understood my problems better.

Of the best - one was female, one was male.
Of the worst - one was female, one was male.

I would rather see a woman ,. Why? because I am a woman and I personal would feel more comfortable talking to a women.

Male, personal preference. I perfer male teachers, doctors, ministers....ect.
