Yes, and be of strong moral character, mentally fit, as well as physically fit. You will be put through a rigorous pre-physical, that will determine if you are even eligible to apply to SEALS.

I am not a seal but I can answer that question. There are two ways to go to BUD/S, one is to apply for the program, get screened for it, and have it signed into your enlistment contract before you enlist. It doesn't guarantee you will get to BUD/S, if you show up for training an out of shape wreck, then they send you packing. However, it does guarantee that you will be given more time to workout and get ready for the training, and that you will be sent directly to BUD/S after boot camp.
The other way is to pick a rating that is allowed to screen for SEALs - like Boatswain Mate, Electronics Technician, etc. Then after you make it through basic, and get to your ship - you can apply there. You have to do it quick though, there are age requirements, and such. For more info check out this website for the requirements straight out of the book. Also I recommend you do some good research, find yourself a mentor, and get to work. Only about 12% of each class will graduate with that class.

Oops, there is one more way to get in. If you didn't get it in your enlistment contract, you will have another chance before you go to the fleet. In boot camp SEAL recruiters show up and hold tryouts - basically administer the fitness test. If you kick a$$, there is a good chance you will get picked up for going to BUD/S.
P.s. If you are only doing the minimums on your fitness test - I would not even bother applying.

yes and no. You must pass Boot Camp AND your A school in a source rating before you are allowed to attend BUD/s. Length of A school depends on the rating.

People who have not endured the training can not speak. I you want to go for it, contact a recruiter and they will truly help. Good luck and I hope you do not ring the bell.
