You can either cut down slowly on your own. Or get professional help for it like detox. You will probably stand a better chance of getting off and staying off if you get professional help. I wish you nothing but Good luck.
Do not quit cold turkey. You could send your body into shock. Medications like these take a while to get off of, but you can do it.

I had taken ambien before, and it sucked. I had a hard time getting off it. My Dr. perscirbed something else. I basically cut off the sleep aid. My dr later had to give me something that was calming during the day...not a sleep aid. Klonopin. Getting off other meds was harder. I just weathered it out and cut myself off. I had no great solution, but bearing thru it. Ask your doctor if there is anything that can ease getting off ambien. Good luck.

On your last refill take 1 pill everyother night for 2 weeks, and then 1 pill every 3rd-4th day. Thats how my doc took me off. I had a 30 day supply and she only wanted me to use it short term. I will say that it got to the point I felt I could not sleep anymore (about 2 months after the last pill) and now she put me on xanax for the anxiety that caused.
