If you mean tobacco, nicotine is a stimulant.

If you mean marijuana, it affects moods, and it also raises pulse rates. It is also known to exacerbate or cause anxiety. I know people who once smoked but quit for that very reason.

So you've experienced one of the symptoms mentioned in the warnings about smoking.... Cigarettes -or any tobacco - acts as a stimulant that gets you ready for a crash if you don't keep smoking. For those not used to this type of stimulant, it can involve parts of the brain that control sensations and emotion........ No wonder you feel anxious; because so much has been said about the dangers of smoking......... Somebody out there loves you enough to want you to be careful to keep your lungs free of the black tar which coats the inside lung tissue so that it can't absorb the air you need. ....... Keep in mind also that statistics are stating that secondhand smoke is more dangerous than actually smoking. so don't hang with smokers and don't expose others to your exhaled smoke.

What are you smoking? Your feelings are normal if you are smoking dope. If it is cigarettes and you are a novice then it is still a bit of a rush. When I smoke cigarettes I find it hard to do so while standing up. I like to be sitting down. I also have to be drinking something, anything...but preferably beer. I first started smoking in a bar when everyone else's smoke bothered me. So I tried a cigarette and the smoke from other's no longer bothered me...used to hurt my eyes. I found that smoking cigarettes and drinking beer pretty much doubled the affect the beer had on me.

Well, until you get to treatment (and hopefully you have medications for the anxiety), you need to relax the mind and body; try doing some deep breathing and stretching while repeating a positive message in your mind before you head out. As well, I've read where others with anxiety like yours imagine in their mind what could possibly happen when they go out and they practice in their minds what they would do in advance, that way the have a "plan" in their minds of what they will do in all kinds of situations.

Marijuana? That's completely normal. You could take a benzo (Diazepam, Alprazolam) to chill you out pre-smokeage.

However, It'd be weird to have that reaction with cigarettes. If that's the case, are you new to smoking them? Novice smokers get abit of a headrush.

Because nicotine is a stimulant. It SPEEDS your heart up. Smokers live in the illusion that a cigarette "calms" them down. That is false. A cigarette calms the withdrawl symptoms of nicotine. A smoker can never truly relax basically..even though they might not believe this no matter how many times they hear it. You would be more calm if you just quit.

Nicotine will get your heart racing. You should find another habit. Preferably one that is not destructive to your health. You know, emphysema, cancer, gum disease, tooth loss, high blood pressure, heart disease......... Bad breath. these things are generally NOT cool.
