I mean how many of them really have read the Bible or even really know the exact teachings of their religion? since there are so many different types and branches of it, are they sure they're following the right one?

If you read the answers in here from Christians when asked detailed questions, most of the answers are seriously 'winged' from the top of their head...stuff like ...

religious person: "if you believe hard enough and love jesus you can fly"

non-religious person: "Umm..no, I can't fly, it's just not physically possible, people can't jump off buildings and fly with the proper equipment"

religious person "Well, if you don't fly and fall, it is God's will, and you're not pure of heart"

non-religious person: "that was probably the biggest load of crap I've ever read, people can't fly ever, it's suicide"

religious person: "Suicide is bad, if you jump and want to die without Jesus's love you don't go to heaven"

non-religious person: "Are you on medication?

well for some dealing with a relative who is one of those christians u can't get rid off, u'll find out that they answer questions only to their benefit, and if u ask them the same question in a different context they will give u contradicting answers.

Uh, Is it just me or do you have a beef against Christians? Asking that question is like asking why all Americans don't vote the same way, after all, how would we know which politician was correct?
Come on, life is full of interpretations and Christianity is not about what sect but that the Lord our God, Jesus Christ came to earth and paid the price for our sins. By faith we are saved not by works.
Try a little patient with people or maybe you shouldn't read the areas that have dealings about religion if it bothers you so bad. We can't all be experts like you appear to be. LOL!!!!!!!
Lighten up and find Jesus and you'll find your answers!

Every atheist I've ever met has known more about the teachings of god than any christian. And those of most other religions as well. You can't really reject a religion without knowing enough to know that you don't agree with it. Which is exactly the problem, I think. Christians know that if they learn to much about their own religion they'll realize it's all a load of bull. So instead of go to church to learn, they go to sleep and make the kids be quiet by telling them that if they talk during church that they'll go to hell.

And don't say I'm full of it. I've seen it. I've experienced it.

For the record,I have indeed read the entire Bible, as have many people I know. The problem is any one can say they are a Christian, but not many actually put forth the effort to follow the teachings.Jesus himself said the two most important principles are to love the Lord thy God, and to love your neighbor as yourself.Saying you are a Christian but not showing the true characteristics of one makes the statement no more true than if I said I was a car but have none of those characteristics.

Which way do you want it? I'm always being criticized for answering with scripture quotes, so ok, I answer with the common sense I know of the scriptures but say it in a way today's culture can identify with. Now your complaining that it doesn't sound like it comes from the scriptures. That's the point we want to throw our hands up. You complain that we do, so we don't then you complain that we don't. Any wonder you get heavy attitudes from some Christians sometimes? The truth is you don't want the truth. You just want to get Christians flustered.

I think that your generalizing all Christians. Perhaps, it's just the people (many times teenagers) coming up with answers on here. You can't stereotype all Christians in that way or Jews or Muslims or any particular religious group. Maybe, if you have real spiritual questions and needs you should speak with a real pastor, preacher, rabbi, priest, etc....

yeah they do.

i doubt many of then have read the bible back to front. im sure theyve read the more popular books and phrases, john, matthew, genesis, you know...where all the nice quotes and easy stuff to understand is.

ive had man a debate that was just like that. us atheists seem to be logic powered while the christians seem to be powered by some absurd fusion of reality and fantasy. just remember, these christians (most of them at least) arent exactly educated. they lack even the most basic skills in both logic and common sense.

were dealing with people with the mentalities of children. and its time they grew up.

Listen... you are speaking for a small group of people. Most christians (including myself) do know a lot about their religions and their individual branch (pentecostal) and read the bible often. I wouldn't have replied to a question like the ones you have given examples of...

I think anytime anybody 'joins' an ism, they have stopped in a large degree, allowing any other reference of choosing between thoughts, into their daily diet. In otherwords when you have everything you believe in 'mapped out' you fail to be able to form any new opinion in conflict with the ones already established and you just start parroting your answers I don't believe in an eternal hell anyway. It is ill logical that all loving can suddenly become all hating. I think we have all suffered enough on earth and don't subscribe to enduring worse afterwards. Actually, I don't have problems with any of the major prophets, it's their 'law givers' I find exception in.
