I met my wife while evacuated at a shelter last Sept in Bunkie, LA. It was love at first sight. We left together and ended up in Houston. We decided to marry. A wonderful, sweet lady from the Red Cross actually gave us $40 of her own money to buy a wedding ring at Wal Mart. We got married. I want to inscribe the words "endure and conquer" on the inside of the ring as a surprise. Do you think my wife will like it or is it too unromantic? Please help.

We knew that our marriage could survive anything, because of what we survived together.

I will have to use trickery to get her to give up her ring, that's my next puzzle?

I think I will ask her to give it to me to bring to the jewelry store to polish...will that work?

That would be a nice thing to do. But how are you going to get her to give up her ring so that you can do this?

Aww your story and idea is so beautiful. :)

I have to be honest and say I don't like the words "endure" - too negative ie we have to endure the hardships of this marriage and "conquer" -too masculine sounding by it's self.

It would be better if you used "conquer" in "our love conquers all" really softens that word. Or "our love sustains us".

We use it when we are stuck for the right words.

Here are some words that mean survive:

You know getting a message engraved on her (and yours?) rings is such a great thing, reminds me of posy rings very romantic and when you are going through a hard time you can look at the words and reflect on the love you share. I would try and go for a tiny verse rather than just two single words if you can.

As for getting her ring - that's going to be very hard and I think it would be better to say darling, I came up with an idea, something special I want to do with your ring, would you mind if I borrow it? If she asks why? Just say well if I tell you it wouldn't be a suprise now would it? and smile. It will still be a suprise and you will build up her excitement wondering what you are going to do with her ring. Good luck and I'm sure she will be extremely touched and really love it! :D

I don't like the use of "trickery". Have a romantic evening and tell her your romatic idea, go to the jewelry store together. It doesn't take very long to get a ring polished. Engraving will take several days or longer.

Considering what you've been through - it's probably more prophetic than unromantic. It's realistic and it symbolizes how the two of you came together. Unless there is a more "special" saying between the two of you, I'd go with ahead with the inscribing.

I think that she will love it. Marriages have to endure and conquer life to survive. Good luck and Congrats. I think that telling her that you are taking it to get cleaned is a great idea. Just make sure that it is cleaned when she gets it back.

Unromantic???? That is the MOST romantic thing I've heard of. Congrats on finding your true love. All the best.

That would mean alot to her, to show that you wanted to put some heartfelt feeling into something that she will be reminded of everyday when she looks down at her hand and sees that wedding band, you are so sweet.
