I'm a Christian and I get absolutely angered at the self-righteousness that I see constantly online. It's one thing to know your right and live a life of faith...it's an entirely different thing to walk around with this "holier than thou" attitude and call yourself a Christian. I am of the opinion that those people are not "christian" but rather "religious." A person who is "Christian" is then "Christ-like." Christ was not pompous. He looked at the adulterous woman with love and compassion and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Neither do I condemn you." If Christ, Himself, isn't condemning and we're supposed to live like Him...you get the drift. Now that I've preached - My Question: Am I the only one who is deciphering and clearly drawing a line between being "relgious" and "Christian?" Are others seeing this for what it is, though I'm sure it's been around forever? Let me know your thoughts.

I asked the question in this form to get people to look at it. I don't actually feel that all Christians feel this way, clearly; otherwise, I'd be ripping myself a new one for no good reason.

I'm with you. I'm stunned and ashamed when I see what you have just described. Where's the love? The main message of the New Testament is agape love. It came from God through Christ, Jesus. And you're so right. Look at how Jesus treated people. He was sooooooo beautiful, loving and kind, so full of compassion. And, are we so blind and pompous as to think we have "earned" the right to be called his own??? There has been so much grace and mercy shown to us. We should be so filled with compassion and love for everyone no matter what they believe or how they "insult" us. And on and on I could go. Kindred spirits here.
Love, joy and peace.

the real church is inside you.not in a building.christians get stupid after being saved.only because the church brainwashes you into thinking you are better than the rest of the world.i was saved and baptised because the spirit commanded it.but i dont hang with the church.i hate being told every week that everything i think do or say is a sin.the church is like the mafia.they marched in, murdered any poor pagen who wouldnt convert, they sqeeze your money from you, remember the crusades??holy war they called it.ok..excuse me if im wrong but does holy, and war belong in the same sentance??God did not mean for any church to rule your life, the church was supposed to be for fellowship and studying the word.but you see what they have become..big buisness for the preachers.it says in revelations that in end times many false prophets would appear, and read what christ said to the churches...food for thought..have a blessed day.

Actually I think all people can take on pompous airs when challenged or angered. It is not just Christians. We must remember that we are still human and subject to human failings. We all need to remember to be humble. Unfortunantly humility is one of many little known virtues. But remember to forgive as we all have shortcomings. I know I am no where near perfect. I try not to expect others to be also.

You aren't the only one but you may be the only Christian... Us atheists have known about this for some time now. Its refreshing to see a person of faith who is at least aware of the correct qualities of a Christian. If they were all like you I wouldn't bash them so much.

Careful now. You can't generalize like that. Just like not all Muslems are terrorists not all Christians are pompous. As a Christian you should know not to judge.
