What should I do? The temporary filling has evidently come out. Now the stuff they packed into the root canal is coming out. Evidentaly all of the dentists in my are closed on Friday's, so I really don't know what to do. I don't think I have another option but to wait until Monday and try to get in with my dentist, or the dentist that did the root canal. Any advice would be appreciated. I did an exhaustive search and cannot find anything on Google.

If your tooth was "closed" with a temporary filling and now it is open to the saliva in your mouth, you might be better off replacing the temporary filling. I can't believe that I'm actually saying this, but I guess it is Firday night... You can find some temp filling material in any drug store that is virtually the same thing that we dentists use. Buy it and follow the label directions. Try to get the kind that does not require any mixing.

Yes, we sometimes leave teeth "open," but this is not the usual practice. If you get saliva in there and it gets infected with your own mouth germs, it could be difficult to "close" the tooth without a lot of pain when the time comes to do that.

This is very important: only eat soft foods until you can get to a dentist!! I had the same thing happen, and b/c I couldn't afford to go back to the dentist for quite a while, I ended up actually SPLITTING that tooth in half on a peanut (worst pain ever!) and eventually it had to be pulled.

If it you aren't in pain it shouldn't be anything to worry about. I had abcess teeth that were left wide open for a few months so they could drain. If it's bothering you then I'm sure your dentist would come in for an emergency visit.

get some sugar free gum (some thats good for your teeth) and pack it down in there so that you can keep the packing from coming out & get to the dentist first thing monday morning
