I've heard great things about Australia, that the people are nice, and it's beautiful.. However, I heard of attacks on non-whites on beaches. Is this true? Is it an isolated incident? I don't mean to offend, I just would like to know.

don't worry about the racist woes recently featured in the press.it's the killer kangaroos and viscious wombats that are the real menace in surban streets.there are more deaths per annum from these predators than traffic accidents, not to mention the funnelweb spiders and red belly black snakes. remember also that being at the bottom of the world we are all upside down . this needs time to adjust to. for women bring jeans as dresses from the northern hemisphere tend to float upwards exposing more that necessary. wear clean undies.

Aussie is as safe if not safer than any
other country to visit there was a bit of trouble last year on 1 beach near Sydney when a lifesaver was attacked which caused a bit of racial tension but is all over now that all concerned calmed down
So come on down & have a good time

The attacks on the beaches have a long story behind them and had a lot of people involved behind the scenes.. People wont just attack u for walking the streets. If you were say, a leb and walked the streets saying " Aussies are **** they should all burn in hell" then yeah... u have a high chance of getting the crap kicked out of you... But visiting and minding ur own business, u will be fine... Thats why so many people visit Australia every year..

Australia is a great place. I moved here 6 yrs ago from Canada. Only 1 incident in that time down by Sydney last year. Its over now and hardly thought of.
We have many kids that come from Canada and travel through Aussie for 6 months to a year and they have all just loved it.
There are many races that reside here and I am sure they would all say it is a great place to live or visit.
Come on over and enjoy!

Australia has nowhere near the racial tension of the US. Yes, there were the riots in Cronulla and yes, indigenous Australians do tend to get marginalised (nobody seems quite sure just what to do with them after wrenching the out of the stone age a couple hundred years ago and effectively destroying their culture), but on the whole, Australia is very welcoming.

I think you should be fine, especially if you stick to the big cities ie Sydney/Melbourne.

Yes, there were riots and yes, they were race-based (against those of Middle-eastern appearance, but Asian people were attacked too, as were some Polynesian people). But there were other factors involved eg alcohol intake and lots of young male louts sitting there with nothing better to do.

Maybe stay away from some of the beaches, especially Cronulla, and really, you should be fine.

we aren't much of a racist country, what happened last year is fairly isolated, The lifesaver was attatcked at the Cronulla beach and it just went from there and was eventually stopped.

But no seriously 95% of us aussies are great, maybe come to Tasmania and then you'll really see both sides of Australia.
Just be careful at times and you'll have no problems what so ever.

I was in Australia three times before and thankfully I did not hear of any racist attacks. I imagine that Australia is no safer or dangerous than any other country, as everywhere have their ignorant narrow minded racist scum. Hope you ave a wonderful vacation

One incident. The reaction of most Australians was shock and horror that it could happen in our country.
