Stick to clear liquors and it really does help if you order from the top shelf. Cheap liquor=big headache. My all time favorite is cranberry juice with a top shelf cranberry vodka....Drink water in between drinks to really avoid a hangover.

Hangovers are inevitable I think. It's the severity of them that you can control

If you drink premium liquors your chances of getting a severe hangover go down. Grey Goose, Belevedere, etc. contain less impurities that cause hangovers in the first place. Skyy Vodka claims to be hangover free too. I have drank Skyy on numerous occasions and have felt pretty ok the next day. Nothing a little water and asprin didnt cure. =)

check out gahrahstah's answer. the distilled liquors are best, but also beware of the mixers! too much sugar can contribute to your hangover, dehydration, and blood sugar spike (and subsequent drop).

drinking any liquor straight up or on the rocks (at a slower pace, obviously), is your best bet. If that's too harsh, try vodka soda, gin soda, etc. The soda water is just carbonated water, has no calories, and helps rehydrate (though not as effectively as water).

personally, I take a Ketel One Citroen Soda and it works swimmingly -- until I polish off the bottle -- then the hangover's inevitable. Happy drinking!

Assuming you are not over indulging in alcohol, the best bet to avoid a hangover is stick to the clear, distilled alcohols like rum, vodka etc. The more particulate matter a liquor has (the microscopic solids), the more it tends to give you a headache. In order of MOST to LEAST particulates is wine - beer - dark liquor - kiddy liquor (all the soda pop drinks like Smirnoff Ice, etc) - clear liquors
Cheers!

It all depends on the amount of food you eat before you drink, and how fast your metabolism is. The more you eat before you drink, the less likely you are to have a hangover.
