Stigmata is the spontaneous appearance of wounds on a person's body that correspond to the wounds incurred by Jesus during his torture and crucifixion. A vast majority of stigmata cases have been exposed as hoaxes, but some of them remained unexplained...apparently "miraculous".
Personally, the validity of such claims have no effect on faith one way or the other. I ignore reports of stigmata because I'm already a believer.
There is a considerable amount of factual information regarding stigmata at this link....

Other people besides Jesus have had stigmata. Among the most famous are Saint Catherine of Siena, Saint John of God, and Saint Marie of the Incarnation. Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (1887–1968). Brother Roque (1968–1996); Therese Neumann (1898–1962), and Lilian Bernas.
As far as what it means I have absolutely no idea. I am only an Occultist. if you want better information hit up www.wikipedia.org and put in stigmata. It should help somewhat.

Stigmata are bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. An individual bearing stigmata is referred to as a stigmatic.
The causes of stigmata are the subject of considerable debate. Some contend that they are miraculous, while others argue they are hoaxes or can be explained medically.
Stigmata are primarily associated with the Roman Catholic faith. Many reported stigmatics are members of Catholic religious orders. About 90% of reported stigmatics are female.

stigmata being the wounds of Christ
it is generally thought that only those with deep religious beliefs would have such wounds .. although there have been the rare non religious person to have these .. although if i am correct the church would not recognise as being stigmata as stigmata would be a show of faith in religion and Christ
i have not heard of the wounds being contributed to anyone other than Jesus though
and i do feel that such wounds are the production of the mind from someone with a connection to the church and Christ

this so called phenomena is nothing more than a catholic mythological wonder that doesn't correspond to the Bible's truth. It is not that we as Christians don't suffer in our own ways but it isn't likely we would have the same supernatural injuries as Christ. We as Christians are to test the spirits of others to see if they ring true even though everyone likes to believe a Christian shouldn't judge we have to it's the only prudent way to keep holy or we would fall for any preachers lies or and evangelists way.Stay with the bible and keep away from the "mysteries" others conjure.I will say this on a final note there are those that so eagerly want signs can manifest such marks on their bodies but as for it being supernaturally brought on a sign to others from God read the scriptures the truth of our purpose and nature and all that pertains to this life is there. Good luck and God blessings be upon you.

well 4 a start they r in the wrong place, if U nail someone to a cross, please don't try this at home, if U put the nails though the hands and feet the weight of the body would cause the nails to rip though the skin making the body fall from the cross, the only place to nail someone to a Cross is though than wrists and ankles, as these are the best places to support the weight of a human body, but still causing great pain and suffering, and a prolonged death

Funny thing about the crucifixion is they would have driven the nails through his wrists..nails through the hands would have ripped out..so until someone has Stigmata on the wrists and feet then I'll believe them..

yes, there are ppl with wounds, but its not like a hole in their hands and feet, its like wounds in the rights spots, they are not deep.
im not entirely sure, but in the movie "the exorsisim of emily rose"(based on a true story)
the priest said stigmata is the mark of being touched by God.
stigmata literally means, "the lord's wounds"

the stigmata is either 1) a blessing from Jesus himself as a living testimony to all
2) demons trying to confuse people
i think that it's #1

that's exactly what it is. people claim that they bleed from the palms of their hands for example, that it is a sign from jesus or god. also it has been claimed that religious statues cry or bleed. certain investigations have shown how it can be done with statues, and certain health disorders may contribute to this.
whether they are true or not, depends on what you wish to believe yourself. I certainly have'nt known anyone who has shown this, nor seen statues in the many old churches i have visited. but i have seen strange things in hospitals so there may be a medical reason for it.
for those of us who would like to believe in miracles, it may be seen as a sign. but personally i have seen too much trickery in my life to believe in something i have'nt seen with my own eyes.
i'd be interested to know if anyone has seen such a phenomenon personally.
