Have you made an appointment at the Social Services office in your community? They can help you find low income housing, and subsidize your pay so you can afford to raise your kids. Trying to raise two kids on $603 is really rough. I'm sure they can help you out. Let them know you are pregnant and have a another child, and need a place to live NOW. That should move you up in priority if they have a waiting list.

Try Section 8 or HUD housing assistance. If the wait list in Chicago is too long, or the gov't housing in Chicago too bad, you might have better luck in the small towns outside Chicago. Call 211 (national community information line, staffed by Volunteers of America) for info on getting into this program.

Relocating outside the Chicago area is probalby not a good idea if you've got family in Chicago, especially since they're willing to help you. Sometimes when people are in a difficult situation they think relocating is the answer but it's not; wherver you go, you still got to deal with your life. Chicago's an ok place, the public transportation system is excellent, there's good schools, lots of jobs, several universities and city colleges, etc. It's a union town so when you're ready to go back to work you're more likely to get decent worker benefits such as day care, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, a living wage, etc. I say, get some help from Uncle Sam on the housing situation, then bloom where you're planted!

I am a single mother of five and I relocated with no money. First the church (that I didn't even go to) heard that I was trying to move and they came over with horse trailers and moved me. I found an add in the paper that offered a job and a place to live and that's what I was going for. Honestly even if you don't go to church, if you ask them for help, someone there usually will help or know of someone who can. And YES being a single mom is hard, I've been doing it for 18 years, with no child support.

SRS should be able to help you find a job or send you back to school, and a place to live and it won't cost much. I know it's hard to swallow your pride, but you have to think of the babies, and you don't want to keep living with someone else. You're pregnant so you can't really get a job right now, and SRS can help for awhile until you can.

Mama, believe it or not, you are gonna have to start from the ground that you cant fall below- a shelter.
Im not sure how chicago is, but you can try virginia, (THATS LIKE A WOMENS STATE) the people are different and wholesome, no one will look down on you, and there are so many programs for women and thier children. If they see in the shelter you are serious, THEY WILL HELP YOU. In 6 months or less you will have your own... save some money (pocket money) for whatever shelter you go to.

there are low income housing just about everywhere, this is where the amount of rent you pay is based on your income. Your local Social services office should be able to help you with resources and possibly some food assistance.

I don't know where your income comes from or if you will be able to work after the baby is born. but in Detroit there are charitable organizations that help people with emergency needs and I'm sure there are some where you live also.
