While fasting, you may lose a few pounds, but you'll gain it all back when you start eating again. Your body will hold on to every single calorie that it gets, thinking that it is still starving, and your appetite will increase greatly. You'd be much better off just decreasing your intake and increasing your exercise.

As soon as you start eating again you'll gain all the weight back plus more because your body will basically think that it will need to store extra fat in case you try fasting again. Plus, your metabolism slows down/stops when you stop eating and it takes a while for it to start up again. There are much better ways to lose weight. A good way would be to keep your metabolism up by eating, but just burn the injested fat off by exercising therefore your body is left with only what is essential for your health such as vitamins.

You have to drink water or suffer painful dehydration and die. Get the facts. Fasting with water is good for you regardless of what people who don't know say. See this site and learn about before trying it. This has quotes from 11 MDs saying how good it is but it is not a game.

Sounds like a bad idea. You can't lose five pounds in a week, and even if you could, it's mostly just water weight and you will gain it back again. Just eat very light meals (salads and skim milk) and get more exercise; this will increase your metabolism and help you to drop weight quicker. (Not to mention, you'll look better because you'll have more muscle tone.) I drink a lot of coffee, this gives me energy and decreases my appetite. It's taken me a year, but I have lost about 20 this way.

Well, fasting has its place for cleansing, spiritual goals, but its not the best way to lose weight by a long shot. However, someone above said you can't lose 5 lbs in a week, which is completely ridiculous. Try http://www.themoviestardiet.com and come back and tell me you can't lose 5 lbs in a week, and in a healthy way.

Hahah, that's how I started on my path to anorexia which led to bulimia.
You'll mostly lose bodily stores, since your body will start to eat itself. You can lose weight very, very quickly. Trust me, I know. I lost 70 pounds and had to be in a wheelchair. Don't ruin your life, not now, not when you're young.
It took SO much money I nearly bankrupted my parents and I nearly died. Now I met someone I love, we're married, and I stopped caring if I had fat on my gut or my butt. Nobody cares, honey, past some immature teen boys and yourself when you look in the mirror. If a guy can't love you the way you are, lose him. I found one who loves me how I am. Even the fattest woman in the world has a husband! And he's skinny! I saw them on TV and he loves her even though she eats more than his bodyweight a day, haha.
Listen, go to a therapist. Then go to a nutritionist. That's how I began to learn how to eat. IF you eat healthy you'll lose weight on your own! I lost weight later on by eating a normal diet, and it stays off and you don't end up having your body eaten alive. There's pounds upon pounds of "gray" Fat that makes up your organs and inner lining, if your body starts to starve it might eat that to preserve energy.
Of course at this point you're probably too sick to help. My best luck to your family. I hate seeing so many women become SO stupid and do this to themselves.

You NEED to drink water! If you are going to do a fast, which will NOT result in a permanent weightloss anyhow, try at least drinking juice because your body WILL need fuel (calories).

Going without water for 4 or 5 days would kill you, and before that you'd get seriously bad headaches, and go into intense pain spasms and such.

You sure can, you can also swallow air as well. I don't see why you are fasting, simply cut down on your calorie intake and exercise more. Remember fasting can be dangerous, it's a close cousin to starvation......
