Here is my favorite recipe:-
1 pound green snap beans, cut into 1-1/2 inch lengths
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup general purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon dry thyme
1 teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon savory
4 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup Jarlsberg or other Swiss-type cheese, grated
1/4 teaspoon ground paprika
Steam beans until just tender. Drain. In a medium saucepan, melt margarine and sauté the onions until tender. Stir in flour. Gradually add milk, stirring until the sauce thickens. Add seasonings. Preheat oven to 350°. Layer beans, egg slices, and sauce in a casserole. In a separate bowl, mix bread crumbs and cheese. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the casserole. Sprinkle paprika on top. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes. Serve hot.

Cream of mushroom soup, milk and french fried onions, I believe. I can't stand the stuff, but my mother in law insists on making it for every holiday known to man. Hey...it's Boxing Day in Canada...let's have green bean casserole! (We're American). LOL

You guys all forgot the soy sauce. I know, it sounds odd, but that what gives it that special flavor!

1 can french-fried onions
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cans french-cut green beans
1 c. milk
1 T. soy sauce
1 t. pepper
Throw it all together in an ovenproof dish and bake at 350 degrees about 30 min, or till hot and bubbly. Yum.
