Do NOT paint a surface that may come in contact with food. I'll assume since you rent this is to HIDE the issue? At some point the security deposit will take care of it. In the meantime, depending on the size ofr the brun, just cover it,,, A table placemat, a trivet, pieces of floor tile, etc etc etc.
No offense to you at all, accidents happen to everyone, but please don't use paint.

So its Formica? If so go match the color and remove that top Whole portion. Easy to do. Then sand any residue on the counters, remove all dust. Make sure you saved the old burnt top to make a template. Then use a strong spray adhesive (follow the directions) Take a router and remove the over hang. go back and file away the edges. prox time 3-4 hrs. If time is not on your side and painting is your thing, try Kilz, ask the person at the counter about it. It covers black walls. Hope this helps you....Good Luck!

As suggested call the manufacturer but if they have no suggestions try some kind of white paint (go to a kitchen and bath store or that dept of Lowe's,etc.) that you can dab onto the spot that will not peel off. Like they have paints to fix scratches on stoves and stuff so you should be able to find something.

I don't know what material it is made of, if it is the homoneous synthetic stone type, you can buff it with very fine sandpaper or use a polish paste that is used for cleaning brass. If it is a plastic laminated counter top, I suggest don't try anything abrasive. You can call the manufacturer and as them. They should have solutions to this since they made it, they are not supposed to fabricate things that is suceptible to this kinds of accidents since they are doing it for kitchens.

I DON'T KNOW HOW BIG THE PIECE OF COUNTER IS YOU BURNED BUT CAN YOU REPLACE JUST THE SECTION YOU BURNED? IF IT'S IN ALL APARTMENTS CAN YOU GO BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE THE ORIGINAL CAME FROM AND FIND A MATCHING PIECE? IF YOU'RE A RENTER YOU WILL PAY NOW OR PAY LATER. I KNOW I DEFINITELY WOULDN'T PAINT IT EITHER. SOMEONE AT A BUILDERS CENTER MIGHT HAVE SOME SOLUTIONS. JUST A THOUGHT.
