my older sister and i were close in age and we had defining colors for pretty much all our stuff, even our rooms. Mine was pink, hers was blue. We picked our colors so there was no problem there, and it made sorting much easier. It's really nice to get them the same toy if they both want it, because as important as it is to share, it's nice for them to feel like something is solely theirs.

Well, I only have one child, but my sister has 3 boys and 2 girls! She buys the girls different colors, and she does the same with the boys! Therefore there is no arguing! But if there is only one color, she gets them both the same color, and she writes their name on the bottom or top of it! Therefore again, there is still no arguing and everyone is happy!

I try not buying two of the same thing to avoid the clutter of too many toys. If it's something that I need two of I buy different colors so they is no arguing.

My boyfriends parents did this to all the kids when they were growing up. Everything each of the three boys had was colorcoated to their favorite color. I would say no different colors because it demotes sharing and promotes a I-own-this attitude.

I have a 3 year old and a 4 year old and the 3 year old always wants whatever the older one has - even if it IS the SAME colour!!

It depends, too, on what sort of item it is. They're both rabid about "Thomas the Tank Engine" now, but they both like different trains.

Are you serious? Of course, you buy them the exact same thing. Do you really need them fighting over colors and inturn ultimately breaking both toys? Use your head.

if my kids like the same toy when we go to the store i let them choose the color. so they can know which one is who's. instead of getting the same color were if something happens to it all you hear is no that's was not mine it was yours

I buy them all the same color. That way i don't have to listen to them fight about which one they want.

well i only have one child, but if i had two, i would buy different colors to avoid mix up of which one belongs to which. or say one of them breaks theirs, then they cant claim that the other one is theirs. i just think it would be much better that way.
