Extremely effective. Many technique in Muay Thai often is more than enough to make people not want to fight you at all.
There use to be a guy who want to spar me full contact until I half heartly kick his leg lightly. He change his mind right after that. I have seen many people turn and walk out of gym after feeling the first kicks or knees on the pads.

For a street fight muay thai is excellent. You learn how to elbow that can mess up someone's face, knees to the face (immediate knock out), kick to the leg (hurts like hell and they will quit), and correct stance so you can do quicker strikes. Usually a 'street fight' will end up in the ground. If you know what are the different positions (side mount, guard, full/half guard), and how to control your opponent on the ground you would beat any guy in the street. There are fighters that are horrible on the ground but they know how to sprawl and/or get back up on their feet when the fight goes to the ground. To be effective I would do mix of muay thai and brazalian jiu jitsu. Once on the ground against someone who knows jiu jitsu all those elbows, knees, kicks are worthless. All you would do is scream "aahhhhhh" and they would probably break those legs/arms.

I only believe that certain attacks are effective in Muay Thai. Like in a clinch you have the option to grapple the back of an opponents neck then, administer the rising knee to the abdomen. Along with in-close fights, elbow strikes are effective, other than that, I don't really believe that Muay Thai is a all-around complete martial art suitable for street fights. It's great! but, not "complete".

Muay thai is probably the most effective in a real stand-up situation. However, if the fight ever got taken to the ground, all the muay thai training would be somewhat useless against a grappler.

U know muay thai has the most dangerous strikes. Elbows were invented in thailand. Elbow and Knees are our natural weapons. elbow shots and knee strikes are so strong.

Very effective in an unarmed scrap, and parts of it are not too bad armed, either. Gotta watch out for your inner forearms, though. The MT 'ready stance' exposes the inner forearms in a way that's very dangerous if the opponent has a cutting tool of some kind.

A left hook, right knee combo followed by a right kick to the body will hurt someone on the street especially if they don't know martial arts.

Really effective, you get in really close, and you keep your opponent tight. chances are the person youde be fighting will want to keep you close so its a good idea to learn a type of comabt where you stay in close!
