If you were on a sinking boat and only had the chance to rescue one person who would you choose? Your spouce or child?

This totally depends on one's perspective. There is the school of thought that says the marital unit is the foundation and without it, the security and future of the child is jeopardized-- aka, more kids can be made so stick to your spouse.
Then there is most parents' perspective which is they would give their life for their child in a heartbeat.
I don't know which way I'd answer as I don't have either yet.

I would rescue the child as the spouse would be more able to save their own life better than the child could.

Without thinking twice my child!! My spouse would want the same. If my spouse was not the father of that child he would just have to understand and just be the one to go as well. My child is MY LIFE, O'my god I have never loved nor will I ever have the same love for ANYBODY or do more for anybody than I would for my child! I love my child so much it hurts.

My child and my spouse .. I would sink ... or just my child. Sorry to my spouse, but Im sure he would do the same.

Since I can't imagine dying for anyone but my children, I sure would not let any one else live at their expense. Not to mention that with divorce rates as high as they are these days that is a dumb question to ask.
