birds are very emotionally sensitive creature, your has to learn to love and trust you, take him/her out of it's cage and sit or lay down and let the bird come to you, if the bird is biting you, it is for a reason 90% of all bites are preventable, love birds are very temperamental animals , and take a while to warm up usually, when he/she bonds to you it will become very protective and loving, give it time and patience.

I recommend contacting www.birdboard.com. They have the best advice I've found and have helped me with my parrots. What you need to do is first have your birdcage around people, mostly you, as much as possible. Let them get used to seeing your face and hearing your voice. Next, find out what their favorite food is. Mine loves sunflower seeds. You can find out by giving them a mixture of seeds and fruit and see what they go for first. Then don't feed them any of that for 2 days. You want them to come to you to get their treat. You want them to see your face and anticipate the treat. Reward them every time they see you and don't go crazy. Then slowly put your finger inside the cage with the treat on the end. If they try to bite, take it out (the finger and the treat) and turn your back on them. Try again in about 5 minutes. You need lots of time and patience. They can be tricky. My female amazon got so she could snatch the treat and bite the finger before I could get my hand out. So I started putting the seed on the end of my finger outside the cage where she could get it through the bars. Now she'll take the seed and leave the finger alone. If you can get them to take the seed from your fingertip, then move the seed further down and reward as soon as their foot touches your finger. Keep rewarding as they put one foot and then the other on your finger. Then insert the command Step Up and reward when they put both feet on at the same time. All of this takes lots of time and patience, but it is really worth it. If you have any questions, e-mail me directly at teacherflores2005@yahoo.com.
