I have no pic yet but I am told he's a collie Akita mix. He's 30 lbs at 6 months, has that Akita curly tail and collie coloring. I just got him from a shelter, I'm not sure what else he could be mixed with. Do any other dogs have that curly tail?

collies and akitas are not little dogs themselves- especially the akita- chows have a curly tail..in any event - check his paws - has he grown into them yet? he's gonna be a big one but sweet

How big are the paws? If they are big, the dog will be big. Count on at least 60 to 70 pounds when full-grown. Be careful with Akitas, they are very possessive and were bred in Japan as fighting dogs. The collie may calm it down a bit, but an Akita attacked my parent's dog as it was barking on it's run (the Akita was loose).

An akita can weight more than 100 pounds as an adult. View the pictures on these sites.
A collie can weigiht up to 75 pounds. Looks like you're gonna have a BIG dog!

Really, really big. A friend of mine has a collie/akita mix and it's 2 years old, 50ft long and 15000lbs. Costs a fortune in food.

Given the comparative SCARCITY of Akita,it's **EXTREMELY** UNLIKEY that's it's contained ANYWHERE in that dog. PLENTY of "nordic" types have curly tails!!
Gotta say that shelter people are TERRIBLE about guessing what mixes a mutt *might* contain! *Most* can usually tell if it's a DOG or not...but ya gotta wonder when you see some of their TOTALLY off-base GUESSES!! Laughable,if it weren't so sad.

There are several breeds of dogs that have curly tails.
Check the AKC web site and see if you can find some dog that may look like yours.
