Most likely spyware, or pop-ups from sites wanting you to buy something. Install a pop-up blocker, spyware, remover, and stop using Internet Explorer. Give Firefox a try. I use all 3 and rarely, if ever, see these scams.

Call Microsoft. Make sure you have the product key for the operating system near by. You will be asked for it.
Also, they will ask you to find the product key on the computer itself. RIGHT click the MY COMPUTER icon on your Desktop and on the General tab, the number will be half way down.

Probably some ad-ware thing, but check that your product keys are put in corrrectly. I had similar problem when I had to re-install windows!

on the front of one of the p c mags i seen today in the shop there was something about fake windows xp i did'nt buy the mag so don.t know what it was all about,,you could go into tescos and have look you don't even have to buy it..

Did you install anything lately?
i install autocad, and my windows gives the same error. I tried to update my windows. It gave an error about not enabled ActiveX. I checked it is active but somehow, it is not effective. I decided to forget about Autocad. this is my experience.

I called microsoft only once- they asked for some # on my comp. and they told me it was some sort of piracy #, and could not help me out! now everytime i get a microsoft update thing, i'm scared to update, they may try something funny!

then turn off updates
