I always leave at least 20% when I eat in a restaurant, but are you supposed to leave that when you pick up an order or curb-side? I usually only leave a few dollars, about $3 or so, but I'm wondering if this is ok? What are you "supposed" to leave?

I do the same thing. 15-20% if sit down, and if it's pick up or curb side just a few dollars. Usually like $3 or even $5 if they bring it to the car. But not as much as a full meal. Afterall, they aren't giving you as much service.

I hadn't thought about having to tip for a pick-up, but when you eat in, the tip is because you're getting (presumably) a lot of service and attention. At curbside pick-up, you're only taking up a couple of minutes of anyone's time. If you feel it's necessary to tip for that, I'd keep it minimal - say $3 or less.

It depends how big the order is when you get a take out that person puts all the add ons onto your food, bags it puts it in the containers. Its more work than anyone who doesnt work in a resteraunt would realize. 10% or at least 2 dollars.

You sound generous enough .....what you leave is more than most would do and I don't think many people even tip for take-out orders unless there was a special service performed ....

I usually just leave a five. If the guy complains I take it back. He has to learn to accept generosity. I easily could have walked out of there without giving him anything.

I'm of the understanding you don't have to leave a tip for take-out
