I understand that Nuclear arms (including short and longrange missles) in North Korea pose a threat to the world. But can't it be seen that Kim Jong Il is trying to pick up some power? Some world freedom? The pride of his country in advancing scientific breakthroughs? Just as Germany, France, S. Korea, Japan, China, etc... and most importantly the USA have done?
Why are the japs tripping like that? They are outright asking North Korea to bomb on them. What are your thoughts?

Wow, the "Japs"?? That's a fairly rude term. Your questions cannot be answered in one short sentence, but I'll try to in as short of space as possible.
1. Can it be seen that Kim Jong II is trying to pick up some power?
A. Kim Jong II has no need to "pick up some power". He's a dictator that has complete power over his country. Also, his succesor is his son. So his legacy is already identified and established. Incidentally, It's his second eldest son that is marked to replace him. His eldest son lost that chance when Kim Jong II found out he was caught trying to visit Disneyland in Japan with a fake visa. Sound crazy?? Look it up because it's true.
2. To gain world freedom
A. Hmmmmmm If he and his country had complete world freedom, what would they do with it?? So far, I'm not impressed with what he has done when faced with the task of making a decision, (continuing his weapons plans, starving his countrymen) so if this is his goal it scares me.
3. The pride of his country in scientific breakthroughs
A. Nuclear weapons have already been discovered. If he wants national pride in advancing the scientific community, he would be focused on things other than already discovered Nuclear weapons. Of course a better place to start would be to feed his starving countrymen.
These things and more paint a picture of an unstable, vindictive dictator. When someone like that fires weapons over/towards another country (more than once) that remembers the devastation of nuclear war very well, it results in what you call "tripping". I happen to have been in Japan when all of this was happening, and it made me nervous.
For you last question, I'm unsure how they are outright asking North Korea to bomb them, as I haven't interpretted Japan's response to this as any such thing.

Philip, it may be interesting for you to learn some of the history of that region. North Korea flexing nuclear weapons is a serious threat to Japan because of their historical interactions. Especially when you consider that some of the elderly Japanese can still remember the devastation that a nuclear weapon causes, and the fact that Japan is bound by treaty with the U.S. not to maintain a standing army. North Korea is not interested in world freedom. Il Jong Kim is a dictator, not a leader democratically elected by his people. Nuclear weapons are no longer a scientific breakthrough. It's old knowledge. If they would like to make new breakthroughs, that would be wonderful. Even more so if they did it not to sell weapons to terrorists, but to advance say, medicine. Don't be a sucker, Il Jong Kim is not a nice man.

While I defend any country's right to pursue nuclear power/arms, I think that Japan, amongst other countries, is concerned about Kim Jong Il...my impression is that he's pretty F-ing crazy. Besides, Japan has been hit by a nuclear bomb before and those wounds still haven't completely healed, so the Japanese are worried about their own well being, assuming that they are a potential target of N. Korea.

Well, considering the fact that North Korea launched two missiles at Japan, and one at the US, I don't think it's about "world freedom", or about having more pride in his country. Anyone with any common sense could see that when a country (such as North Korea) fires weapons at other countries, it's not about pride, and it's not about freedom. It's about being hostile, which is exactly what North Korea is being.

What dream international are you residing in? North Korea makes Cuba appear like Disneyland. The position is a whole communist dictorship run via one loved ones for 60 years. Let them be? Most the sector already does! Few exchange with them or journey there. Without exchange in medicinal drugs, counterfit US greenbacks & arm they could die. They are living in a global that has now not modified due to the fact 1950. You have to take prime college historical past once more. You have to have overlooked plenty.....

okay think about it like this, you are living in Japan along with all of your family and friends, and then you hear on the news that a missile just landed close to your homeland. that you and your family is at risk of being blown up. would you see it as "oh they are just making progress"? i dont think so. North Korea shot those missiles off to flex their muscles in a sense. It was kind of like a threat saying "hey look what i can do to you"

Politicians maintain their power base partly by creating crises in the public imagination. North Korea is one such crisis. Iran is another. It doesn't have much to do with rationality. Obviously the North Korean government doesn't quite have all its marbles, but the US government is a much bigger threat to world peace.

why don't you stop and think about the people of N. Korea that are in a chronic state of starvation while their leader spends all his time printing fake U.S. $100 bills and wasting money on rockets that don't work. He needs to go the way of the dinasor or should I say the way of communism!
