OK, I understand some people have a problem with tasers, but please look at the facts. People who will not obey the officers or can not be controlled are tasered. There have been 7 (I believe) deaths in the whole country in the last year from tasers. All have been people with mental issues or on drugs. No healthy people have died. They are much more safe then a bullet or a club. The pain lasts only a few seconds and it makes them immobile. I'd much rather be tased by mistake then have my husband killed in the line of duty because a person on PCP couldn't be taken down with a club.

Actually, I wold rather have tasers used instead of bullets, billy clubs, martial arts moves and etc. because while painful, they can incapacitate a "non-violent" offender without rendering them unconscious, leaving them bruised or giving them brain damage or broken bones or etc. Granted, these conditions usually result from some idiot fighting a cop or two, but in obvious situations of belligerent "non-aggression" or non-compliance with an officer's directive, I say taser em' and bring em' under control before they get a chance to do something that would escalate the situation!

In Chicago, Illinois during the first week the police department began using tasers, a 17 year old boy suffered from cardiac arrest and was in the hospital for 4 months and one man died after 12 hours. NOT a safe alternative to bullets.

I really don't mind. It is an alternative to lethal force. It is difficult to clarify non-violent offenders. Some people can be an active threat or place the officer in a hostile situation.
I would rather be tased than shot.

You better believe that 99% of the people "tased" asked for it big time.

give a big BOY a new toy and he'll play with it.I strongly agree that stringent guidelines for such non lethal devices should be enacted,...though enforcing them will be difficult
