I have noticed that many Muslims and Christians get offended easily when their beliefs are questioned.I have seen questions removed and have even had a couple of my own questions removed because they were deemed insulting. My view is that if you know something to be true and believe it then nothing anyone says will affect you.By being insulted by what others say about your beliefs suggests that you might be insecure and insecurity suggests that maybe you don't really believe or you need validation of your beliefs.

But that is just how I see it.People call me names all the time because I am gay.I don't get offended because I know that when people call me names it is because they don't understand or even know anything about me.They just focus on the "gay" thing.Likewise, people insult religious people often because they don't understand why people need faith. To them, and me, it's like a child needing his/her mommy all their life. But why do many Christians and Muslims get offended by it

They get offended as a defense mechanism for not being able to explain the myriad of inconsistencies in their mythology books.

I have a question for you. Is the only thing about you is that you are gay? Do you have talents, dreams, opinions on other issues, likes and dislikes? Do you have different moods and feelings at different times? If someone walked up to you and said" I think everything you believe in and hold dear is useless and stupid. Now if you get offended you are just sensitive." Does that make any sense? Maybe you don't understand "why" someone would follow a certain set of guidelines or feel a certain way but that doesn't mean that being rude is the right thing to do. Being gay I would think you of all people would know that. I am not just a christian, if you met me you would see I am no different than you. Flesh and blood. I laugh and cry and have good days and bad ones. Why not ask people why they believe what they believe and you might learn something even if you don't happen to agree?

Now really when was the last time someone called you a name?

Do you live in some far off foreign country where Christians and Muslims are hunting you down to abuse you?

If your questions were deemed insulting by Yahoo they must have been pretty bad.

If you want to be Gay then go be Gay and stop rubbing it in the faces of the Christians and Muslims. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. You have that freedom.

i can't answer for everyone else.. but i think what we believe about God really matters.

i'm also sorry that people call you names because of your sexual orientation.

Some believers are still firming a solid foundation in their faith and dont' know how to react to questions. You are indeed right that some are insecure. However, we should consider each person on an individual basis. Some people are eccentric and some people just like to argue...

For Christians i can say that the Bible teaches us to know God and really understand Him. i think that is great because it means that we can give an answer to difficult questions and i think the fact that people with different beliefs can dialogue is great because what we believe about God matters!

Have a great day!

I totally agree! There are very few people on here who are secure enough with themselves, not only their religious beliefs, but with any subject, not to be offended by what people say. I personally find it funny, sometimes I like to read answers and questions from the Religion and Spirituality section just for a quick laugh.

Making a jokes or cartoon about Mohammad is a death sentence.

To answer your question, these religions are beat into you since birth. Every day of your life, you are guided by a set of rules. It is as though you never had a choice to pick the religion that you want. These rules are clear and forward. It is easy to know when you broke a rule. The entire community is involve and there is a lot of pressure too.

As a christian, I would agree that many religious people ARE insecure in their beliefs.

I also think that everyone has their hot buttons. Everyone has their triggers and areas that are so sensitive, no one can discuss it without upsetting them.

Many religious people are NOT insecure about their beliefs. Any time you generalize you run the risk of becoming prejudice.

Well, when one's religion is insulted, then he/she feels obligated to fight back because he/she thinks his/her religion is correct. Why sit back idly when your way of life is threatened? Also, often people get reported for asking usually demeaning questions about a religion because no matter how many times you try to answer them, they're too close-minded to accept or at least respect that religious doctrine. Often, the whole point of asking that question was to degrade that religion. And that's a horrible business.

I'm going to compare this to a situation with my friend. She and I cannot discuss who she is dating because if I say something bad about the situation, she gets really upset. This is because there is no logic or rationality behind her decision to date this guy, who is a liar, manipulator, and won't commit to an exclusive relationship with her after almost a year. So since she has nothing with which to argue her side, she gets upset when we talk about it. Same with Christians I guess.

When anyone strongly believes in anything, they are automatically offended when something challenges their belief. When it comes to religion, people are stuck on their beliefs because they're not willing to accept anything that could possibly make them a non-believer or challenge something that they feel in their heart is right.
