I'm going to speak to a young singles group and I would like input. Do you think it's hard today to be young and single? Do you think there is a bias for married people? How or why is it hard?

I live with the philosophy that things are as difficult as you let them be.

As a 46-year-old single, I can say that it is hard, but I think it's just as hard to be 20-40 years old and married. Yes, society does seem to have a bias towards married people, but that's not a big problem for me, and I don't see why it would be for anyone else.

i came from being married at 19 and divorced by 24 and i hated being single. most guys would think id be happy, back out there, having whatever i wanted, but the grass isnt always greener, trust me. ur married and have that security, that one person you can come home to, someone you can trust (well, thought u could trust >) and to go from that to being single is definitely hard. seems like when ur by yourself, you only see couples together. drives u crazy sometimes...i felt a lot better after i hooked up...

and being single today, theres so much going around. im in a monogamous relationship now, i dont have to worry about STDS, AIDS, that stuff...today being single and young, you dont know whats out there or who has it. ...i read somewhere that like 8 out of 10 adults have an STD and dont even know...thats crazy.

YES!

1. it's lonely
2. People and friends think you're gay (if you are a man)
3. People think there is something wrong with you.
4. People think that you got no game.
5. People think you are stuck up
6. Gay people always hit on you (if you are a man or maybe just my case).
7. You don't remember the last time you got laid.
8. You answer questions here at Yahoo Answers a lot.
9. You go to the gym but eat a lot afterwards ( I think that is just me though)
10. You always look silly at amusement park rides sitting by yourself and screaming by yourself.
11. You look silly eating alone.
12. You look silly going to the movies alone.
13. You look silly when you see your friends at the mall and you are by yourself.
14. There is no drama in your life just boredom.

Or maybe it's just me....

Its not hard to be single... Although it may be too easy for some individuals. Its not hard to get a partner either. Sex today is watered down far more than it was 50 years ago. We (in LA) are not a very conservative culture any longer. Sex is easy and gf/bf relationships with partners are no longer a neccessity to unlock the chastity belt.

For functioning in a city with bar and entertainment activity, being single is fine. In the suburbs, a lot of the activities are centered around children's soccer games and such. You have less of a chance of meeting other people, unless you are outgoing and have friends and join book clubs and have dinner parties.

I'd rather be 20-40, single, and happy, rather then being 20-40, married, and unhappy dear....Single is not a bad thing. It's different strokes for different folks.

I am 26 years old and single. It's very difficult nowadays because most of my friends are getting married and starting their own families. So now you realize on the weekend when it used to be filled with so much activities, suddenly you are alone. It's also very difficult to find a person who is "true"nowadays, therefore alot of ladies are getting used and hurt. I just try to keep myself occupied inorder to cope.

20-40 is a wide age limit. 20 is too young to be tied down and 40 is too old

I am 36 and a single man. I love it. I can date, I can travel, I can live my life with very few complications. The only hard part is family gatherings.

Maybe, but it's even harder when you're 55 look like 40 and are a wonderful person. I think people are very myopic in their appraisal of people and like to label them or categorize them and thus pass judgment on them without really knowing them.
