I am looking to buy a unique engagement ring and I want to surprise her with the ring. For her, uniqueness would be more important than anything else. Right now I am looking at a white gold band with a setting that is kind of like a tiara with 2 marquise shaped purple diamonds or marquise blue sapphires inlaid in the ring on each side of the diamond. What do you girls like?

I have told my bf not to worry about an engagement ring when the time comes, just a simple gold wedding band will do. :)

Anyways, here is my taste..........

*Diamonds I like are Princess and Emerald cut

*Gemstones I like are Emeralds (too fragile for an engagement ring) tsavourite, garnet, medium (bright) blue sapphire, aquamarine, topaz and my favourite unique ones are moonstone and alexandrite, funny enough both are my bf's birthstones!

* My favourite metal is rose gold.

This is my favourite ring designer site ( UK based):

Her stuff is very unique and different and she uses both diamonds and gemstones. I'm really drawn to some of her dainty rings as I love dainty.

I like Lucy L's idea. I did not pick out my ring but had a lot of input through my future step mother in law. I told her what I liked and she helped my man pick it out. I have larger hands so I have a bit of a thicker band with a round 1.0ct diamond in the center surrounded by two .25 diamonds and two .33 marquise next.

If you really want to surprise her-- don't ask her to pick out her own ring. If she has a friend that you can trust not to tell her-- her friend may have some "inside information" as to what she wants. Before I got engaged my best friend knew what I wanted. Although he didn't ask her because he knew she might slip and tell me.
If you think she would love the uniqueness of the colored diamonds then go for it!!
I love the fact that my fiance picked out my ring all by himself. The jeweler told him to ask me some questions without being obvious (i had no clue) to know what I didn't like. He talked to me about a ring he saw in a jewelry store window and asked if I would like that.

Engagement rings are a real personal preference. That's why there are so many out there. The key is to find out your fiancee's style and get it. My wife loves round diamonds. So I got her a three stone diamond ring with pave accent diamonds in a platinum setting. Make sure you research the four C's of a diamond to make sure you're getting the quality diamond you want.

Sounds lovely, but be certain you know her taste if you are going to surprise her, not every one likes colored stones in their engagement ring. Traditionally, the biggest solitaire you can afford, in her favorite cut, mounted on her preference of white, yellow or rose gold will give the biggest thrill. However, for uniqueness, I would like a Tanzanite Center stone ( med. intensity blue w/ periwinkle flashes) w/ diamonds on each side, set in a past, present, future design.

mine is a Solitaire,Princess cut VSI(very small inclusions) carat and a half with 6 VSI, .35c diamonds along each side(stairway) on the shank, yellow gold, with white gold setting for the diamonds. I got to pick it. Take her a her good friend to pick it out as she may have an idea of what she wants and although she may say she likes and thinks she's being selfish if she doesn't she may not like it and have to look at it every day

My engagement ring is has three emerald cut diamonds on top and six(three on either side) channel set princess cut diamonds in the band. Talk to you girl... she will tell you what she likes and go from there. We spent two days looking at rings and he went back and picked out one of the ones I said I liked. My ring is white gold too, but I must warn you... depending on her skin type... you might have to have it re-coated and polished often. White gold and some skin types cause the white gold to go back to its original yellow state. Mine does it, but it does not cost us anything to have it cleaned and re-polished. It is included in our warranty. GOOD LUCK.
Oh yeah, I like the idea of the ring you are looking at.

My engagement ring is 3.5 carats natural aquamarine with diamond accents. It features a 3 carat emerald cut center stone flagged on each side with three diamonds followed by two half carat emerald cut aquamarines on each side. It is set in yellow gold. I love it. My fiance decided on aquamarine because it is the stone for aquarius and we both are aquarius. I think it was so sweet.

Personally i love mine, it is a traditional three stone princess cut in a treless setting. Simple but different different than any of my friends/coworkers rings.

I would ask your fiance and see what she thinks. Just start looking at jewlery stores when you are in the mall with her. I am sure she has an opinon and will show you what she likes.

I really like cushion cut diamonds.... and remember when choosing a diamond clearer is better than bigger...But i have to agree that she will be wearing it...I suggest you get her friend or a sister or something to casually take her into a jewelry store and see what catches her eye and have them report back. Make sure they do it in a way that won't make her suspect anything...Good luck and congrats....
