Where on earth did you get that idea? I've never heard of such a thing. There are instances where people can lose their sense of taste, either temporarily or permanently, but it's not due to taste buds falling off. Generally, it is an olfactory problem where you lose your sense of taste because you've lost your sense of smell, like when your nose is congested from a bad cold or sinus problem. A large percentage of taste comes from the aroma of foods. Did you know that there are only four true "tastes" -- bitter, sour, salty and sweet, depending on where the taste buds are located on the tongue? The vast varieties of flavors originate in the olfactory glands in the nose. Also, certain medications can temporarily alter the taste buds.

Um, not exactly. Everybody sheds skin cells, and taste buds on your tongue have skin cells, and those shed off instead, to be replaced by another. It's perfectly natural, and it is completely harmless. Everyone sheds the cells and they don't notice it. Speaking of shedding cells, did you know that it takes seven years for all your skin cells shed and be regrown? You are completely new person every seven years.
