having shared religious beliefs is very important to me. I believe it helps lay a strong and sturdy foundation in a marriage.

Yes. Because if one spouse has it and one does not, the one who has it will always see his/her partner as a sinner. No healthy relationship can exist when one thinks the other one is evil/the work of the devil/a sinner. The same holds true for interfaith - the other will always be a sinner in the eyes of the other's religion.
On the flip side, the one who does not have religion will always wonder about the intelligence or the mental stability of the one who does. You can't have a healthy and equal relationship with someone who you feel is significantly inferior.
People can sit here and say that "Oh, we've been married for 15 years and I'm a Catholic and he's Jewish/Atheist/Muslim," but the fact of the matter is that if you truly believe in your religion, then the other person is a sinner. And if you don't truly believe in your religion, then you are a pick & choose disciple or a hypocrite. Mind as well simply be a deist and practice your faith on your own.

Religion does matter. You have to make sure that you both can live with the other's beliefs. It is only an impediment if you allow it to be. It is not a requirement to have a belief or a faith, but it helps. My husband and I are two different religions, but both of these religions are Christian based religions. We respect each other and our faiths. So this helps us to get along. We go to church with each other on his days off.

Depends on the person. If you're a believer it matters, if you aren't it doesn't.
I was brought up fairly religious but am less so now. But it still has an influence on me - I wouldn't feel comfortable having kids until I'm married. Saying that, I live with my fiancé, so either I pick the bits I like the look of or it's nothing to do with religion but rather my own moral code!

Before you marry make sure the religious thing is cussed and discussed. In the heat of the moment you may gloss over it and come to regret it down the road. If I divorce my wife it is going to over religion. She lives for religion and church as most women eventually do. I firmly believe the only reason most men go to church is to shut up their wives. You can stick your head in the sand but it won't go away and it will make your life a living hell.

only in so far as traditions are concerned i was raised catholic id like the children in the family to be christened and make first communion and then decide for themselves if they want to remain in the church. I enjoy the religious aspect of all the holidays and attend service only then, I think it matters that children be given some training in values and belong to a group.

No. I don't think religion matters. I'd rather get to know someone first. I have friends from many religious backgrounds and we all get on very well. Religion doesn't enter in to it.

Of course it does, especially if a couple have children. Which religion will you teach them? If you teach them both religions, it will confuse them as most religions have conflicting views. And then the couple start arguing which religion their child(ren) should follow.....

I don't think religion really matters to God as long as you have a good spiritual relationship with him.
