I don't mean to cast a big net, but so many people who call themselves Christians do not seem to live by the teachings of Christ, yet gleefully pass judgement on those who pose thoughtful questions that are somtimes skeptical or critical of particular interpretations or practices of various belief systems.

And why would they assume that the questioner hasn't read the Gospel?

Part of it I can understand because they can take some of this as an attack on their beliefs. That can be offensive and sure some people can come unglued over that. That is not an excuse!

See when one professes faith in Christ then they must learn what Jesus taught and how he lived. Then they are suppose to model their lives after that. Putting others before yourself, being selfless not selfish, showing compassion. (concerned passion, concerned love). Then they are suppose to show their faith by putting it into action, quietly, respectfully, and not making a big deal about it. Their actions will confirm the faith or it will condemn it. Most of the time the actions condemn it and they don't even know it. That is sad. They don't have the full knowledge of what they claim to believe.

But when a person professes their faith in Jesus and does live by it, it speaks volumes, and not by their words. It however is not an easy walk but it is full filling. Others get the true benefits when true Christians live by their faith.

Watch Christians, do they truly live by what they claim?? If they do you will know, you will see.

A very good question.

If you want to start a hot arguement discuss religion or politics.

Why do some christians give heated answers? Because christians are human also. Christians are not perfect, but they are forgiven. That does not mean that they can go on and do whatever they want and continually claim forgiveness. They must aim for the perfection of Christ, but that perfection is impossible for all humans, christians and non-christians. Christianity is not about being nice or mean. It's about seeking out our Creator and finding attonement for our imperfections through Christ's sacrifice on the cross. It is about trusting Christ's teachings.

Take me for example. Many of my friends have told me that when they look at their lives, that I was the only one that has been continually there for them, through good times and bad. They think that I am a nice guy. Am I claiming to be "mean free"? No way, I am as human as you can get. I once beat the daylights out of the high school bully. So you see, I am nice and mean just like everyone else on this planet. Some people are nicer, some meaner than others.

I am also very skeptical of various belief systems. My friends and I (most of them non-christian) spend long hours in the night discussing various human belief systems, and the discussions often get very passionate. Religion and politics are hot button subjects, and they make the emotions run very high. But we're all still friends afterward.

I say if you have a question or a point, ask it. But ask many people who know what they are talking about. And if its a sensative topic, try to find someone with some skill in discussing such topics.

If you seek knowlege or the truth, find someone skilled in teaching it, don't argue with a mean guy.

Well you see it all depends. False teachings are a lie and God hates lies. So if someone seems mean-spirited because they call a lie a lie then that's just your perception of them and may or may not have a corresponding truth in their inner being.

But if someone passes judgment on someone personally because they ask a thoughtful question then it could be that they are walking according to their flesh and not according to the Spirit of God.

"For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, ***enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy,*** drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:17-23

Religion is a solace to many people and it is even conceivable that some religion, somewhere, really is Ultimate Truth. But in many cases, being religious is merely a form of conceit. The Bible Belt faith in which I was brought up encouraged me to think that I was better than the rest of the world; I was 'saved' and they were 'damned' — we were in a state of grace and the rest of the world were 'heathens' and by 'heathen' they meant such people as our brother Mahmoud. It meant that an ignorant, stupid lout who seldom bathed and planted his corn by the phase of the Moon could claim to know the final answers of the Universe. That entitled him to look down his nose at everybody else. Our hymn book was loaded with such arrogance — mindless, conceited, self-congratulation on how cozy we were with the Almighty and what a high opinion he had of us and us alone, and what hell everybody else was going to catch come Judgment Day.

u know, i totally agree. and i've grown up in christian churches my Whole life. =T ....that's probably i kinda faded away during college, when my mom couldn't force me to go. i believe that we ALL, as humans, have a tendency to "force" people to believe or do as they do. at first, it may start as a good intention, but nevertheless it can easily and usually becomes forceful, and then judgemental, and then we begin to divide ourselves from those we deem "unworthy" or "wrong". i think this is NOT what Christianity, or any religion was founded on. in fact, it was based on love and understanding and empathy for all, regardless of race, gender, or social status. recently i've come back to religion, and have renewed my faith in a way I've never understood before. i hope and pray that we all learn to have open minds, open hearts, to be able to share our ideas and not condemn anyone for having their own opinions. at the same time, i also hope that everyone will try to learn about ALL things to be able to make an informed decision about spirituality. please don't let some negative people u've met color the whole religion for you; it is up to YOU to decide what u believe and what u don't. there are many atheists or non-Christians who also prejudge; it is a human error, not a Christian one.

all your respondents come close, yet don't have the perfect answer. Your question stems from the element of the bible the place the "unforgiveable sin" is suggested. This warning became given decrease back then through fact Pharisees talked approximately as Jesus the son of the devil for the astonishing healing of the guy with the withered hand. The unforgiveable sin and Blaspheming the holy spirit are 2 separate matters. we are able to no longer commit the unforgiveable sin as Jesus isn't walking among us working miracles, as a result we are able to no longer call him the son of the devil for appearing miracles. Blaspheming (see the respondents definition) the holy spirit is a sin, although you will be forgiven for it. I in my early little ones did some very silly issues like yelling "Do bongs for Jesus" at highway preachers. Forgiveable. I as quickly as vandalized a church (mildly, no longer something became broken or ruined) and that i comprehend i could be forgiven for that. although you're decrease than some specific discipline from the Lord in case you have been stored and you pick for to disclaim the Christ and his sacrifice, his works and his words. so you could be sealed by the holy spirit as God's property after an immersion in water (no different way is suggested interior the bible) and say that the HS did no artwork on your and its all a phoney gadget and then to instruct a hundred and eighty ranges and persist with your very own carnal lusts for something of your lifetime is going to have ramifications at an identical time as residing and of direction while your spirit returns to its author who gave you the way and our rejected it. it is not my activity to choose into heaven or hell, that's God's activity on my own. i will although choose the fruit of somebody's spirit. in the event that they are contantly denying there's a HS, God and Christ became in basic terms a "prophet" for vulnerable human beings i will choose that they are going to be perplexing to handle and that i shouldn't shop corporation with them. i desire that cleared it up for you.

I think they are a bit "overzealous" in their attempts to witness to others. They forget that it says in the Word "Judge not let ye be judged. For with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured unto you again." I try not to be too inflammatory with the Word because the Bible warns against that too!

I think for many faith is a crutch for them and when people threaten their crutch they lash out defensively. Faith isn't supposed to be a crutch it's supposed to be a vitamin, a thing that makes you better as a person but you don't need to take one every hour.
