That's like asking "Can you be a vegetarian and still eat meat?" It goes against the principles of what you're trying to be.

Jesus commanded us to "go and sin no more". According to the Bible, the act of homosexuality is a sin. Anyone living that does these things that are wrong (according to what the Bible says), is living in sin, UNTIL they repent. (repent=sorrow for wrong + turning away from wrong and doing right). You can't obtain a gift from God that you don't reach out yourself to recieve, and by continuing to live life doing things that are wrong, that gift (forgivness of sins) is being rejected.
For those of you that say 'homosexuality isn't a sin according to the Bible', read these BIBLE verses (both Old Testament and New Testament, so it has no change because of the ultimate sacrifice).

Leviticus 18:22 " 'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."
Romans 1:24-28 " Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done."
1 Corinthians 6:9-19 " Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
Jude 1:7 "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire." (Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God because they were cities filled with all kinds of perversion, the Bible lists homosexuality as one of the things the cities were destroyed for -this story is found in Genesis 19:1-25.)

Homosexual behavior is always discussed in the Bible as sin. Historical Christian interpretation has consistently viewed homosexual behavior as sinful. The modern word sodomy even comes from the biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah.
There are those who take some of the passages of Scripture above and attempt to show that they do not really mean to condemn homosexuality. But these arguments fall short, and upon investigation become an obvious ploy to distort the plain meaning of Scripture. As applies to other doctrines of the Bible, one must avoid trying to interpret Scripture in light of one's proclivities, and instead, interpret one's proclivities in light of Scripture. The Bible is the grid. It is wrong to overlay your own grid on the Bible.

To say that you have Christian faith means that you live by the commandments of God. God commanded in the Bible to turn from perverse lifestyles such as homosexuality and this way of life is sin and an abomination against God. So if you really want to live by the Bible...NO you can't be gay and be a christian. I've had many gay friends (I'm not gay) in the past but I know for a fact that if they will be honest with themselves, they would say that they are not right with God. I believe it boils down to being real with yourself and come clean.Repentance is one of the major steps in the plan of salvation .

A number of Christian churches are very open and accepting of gay people within their congregations. The primary denominations are the Metropolitan Community Church, the United Church of Christ, the Episcopal Church, and the Unitarian Universalists. Also, individual congregations within other denominations are equally open and accepting, including several American Baptist, Presbyterian, United Methodist, and Lutheran churches. Don't let the fundamentalists convince you that there's no space for you to follow your faith. It only means there's a limited amount of love in their hearts.

Although it is a sin,it is possible.

Have you ever noticed that people condemn a christian to hell if they have a gay relationship. But if ,for example,a man that goes to church cheats on his wife then he is still a good christian.Or someone who has an addiction to smoking or drinking, then they are just struggling spiritually. But if someone is gay then they are going to burn in hell (according to church people).

I definately don't condone it,but in God's eyes all of the above is a sin and not greater than the other.

No, because homosexuality is an abomination to God. It doesn't mean that God doesn't still love you, but you have to repent of that transgression against God. People in church have to love you and hate that sin you carry, otherwise they are being judgmental and are as big of an abomination to God as the sin itself. So, maintain your faith, but make sure your faith is WHOLE, not fractured by a lifestyle choice that God has clearly expressed to be sin!

I think that gay Christians carry alot of guilt with them. They can maintain their faith but I think they would be happier if they lived a celibate life - no gay sex.

Sure, the bible states homosexuality is a sin - it says alot of things. I found below hysterical and poignant.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to
people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an
observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to
Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The
following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast
resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as
informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I
have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that
knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend
the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that
Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of
debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of
the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours.
They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in
Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair
price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is,
how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A
friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not
Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to
kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than
homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have
a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses.
Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair
around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.
19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of
two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends
to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to
all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? -
Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family
affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.
20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident
you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is
eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted fan,
Jim

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON HOMOSEXUALITY

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms throughout the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on sacred Scripture, which present homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity [Gen. 19:1-29, Rom. 1:24-27, 1 Cor. 6:10, 1Tim. 1:10], tradition has always declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered [Persona Humana 8]. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

People who willfully rebel against God's commandments will tend to avoid the guilt associated with sin. They would tend to lose faith and avoid church rather than accept that feeling of guilt in their lives. It doesn't go away though.
