Start at 000 and work your way up... once you've opened it you can set the combination to something else more memorable. Without breaking it open, which would render it useless, there's no other way I'm afraid.

Oh man, while great safekeepers those things are truly cases of doom. Once we got in the same jam right the day before leaving and my Grandma (poor patient lady) sat there on the floor for hours twisting the little numbers until finally- STRIKE OF LUCK!!! The clicking sound of hope and it opened! ..lol what a story ey? The only thing I can think of besides breaking the lock off is doing just that or calling the factory/samsonite and asking them.

Good luck.

I don't know how many numbers you have on that lock, NNN or NNNN. If it's NNNN then as JD said, you could start at 0000 and work your way up. However, that is kinda painstaking. You could randomly combine numbers together as well. Chance of success 1 in 10000.
If you know for sure that your numbers were all different, for example the combination wasn't all the same number, like 1111, 4444, etc.. or even any pattern with repeating numbers like 0007, 9000, 9900, 9090 (you get the drift) then your chances of success are 1 in 5040.
So if you used random sequences, your time to get to the desired code, MAY be less than if you went serially. There is always the chance that you may get to it after you went through all the possible combinations. But there is also the chance that you may get it the first time. If you chose all different digits, your odds are quite good I have to say.

Usually the locks are pretty crappy. Try squeezing the opening latches whilst rotating the combinations. If you're lucky you'll find the wheels are slightly harder to turn once they have hit the right combo. Try it working from right to left, then left to right.

Alternative: blow torch.

J.D's way is sure fire. I also did the same thing forgot my number and accidently locked it. Luckily I remember the first digit so I only needed about 100 trys to get it open.

Put an elastic band around the catch, then you can rapidly go from 0001 to 9999, when you reach the correct one, it will flip open. There is no other way. Try your birthday, ie 2412 and several similar numbers that mean something to you first.........

Take it to the locksmith. Sorry I can't help more, but I know from experience it's the only way.

J D beat me to it. I've used this approach myself. My excuse is: it had been in storage for 3 years.
