The president, whether you hate him or like him, in the Military he is the Commander In Chief. He is the same as being your supreme commanding officer. He is in your chain of command. In the military you have no rights, you signed the contract. If you dont like it, shut yer hole, wait to get out, and say whatever you want.

The President is the Commander In Chief & leader of all military personnel. Military personnel is not allowed to critciize their commanding officers.

This is not much different in private life. If my husband's employees critize him - they are looking for a new job - no exceptions.

As a soldier, you can give your opinion with regards to politics but one should not discuss these things at work as it is considered to be unprofessional. Soldiers are not allowed the right to free speech when it conflicts with ones unit or the chain of command. But I don't think anybody in control of the DOD will ever admit this to a civilian source.

It is true that the Armed Force Members aren't supposed to speak badly of the President. Even when they are in their office/ship whatever, they're not allowed to say negative stuff. However, my husband is in the Military and we talk about our political views at home, or with friends. He would never say anything out in public, and he would certainly never say anything negative about America or our Government while he is in a foreign country, but he definitely expresses himself around those of us that are close to him. I'm a bit surprised your friend wouldn't talk to you about, unless you were out in public. I have never known a Military member that hasn't expressed their-self!

enlisted soldiers can say what they think about the president, officers cannot. maybe your friend just didnt feel like going into it about Bush. now on TV its a different thing, soldiers cannot say whatever they want on TV, it would look bad if there was a soldier bashing on the president on national TV so its not allowed.

Hes playing stupid then. He cannot talk about the president in Uniform or affiliate his opinion with the military by any means.

He can talk to you about his views and opinions about the president. He just cannot represent the military while doing it!

Officers cannot speak ill of their leadership. It's against article 82 of the code of conduct. Enlistedmen have more freedom in what they say.

what most civilians (especially those who take their rights and freedom for granted). don't realize is that when a soldier signs his/her name on the dotted line, they give up half of the rights that they are willing to die defending. so no we are not allowed to publicly speak against the president, we do not have freedom of speech, we do not have freedom of assembly.

that's kind of a funny question.....I spent almost 10 years in and most of the servicemen & women I met were in favor of the residing C.I.C. !

Of course, most were either conservative or republican, too.
