I just had a baby last Friday and my husband and I have resumed our sex life already. I was wondering how long I had to wait before I started my birth control pills? My doctor said 2 weeks after I delivered, but she also said 6 weeks before intercourse and I didn't want to wait that long.

I'm not a doctor, but I have four kids. Technically, you're the most fertile just after giving birth and while nursing. So, at least use a condom. Two weeks is when you're supposed to begin your pills. When you have a baby your hormones are going crazy, with birth control pills being hormone based, you shouldn't start them any sooner. But a word of advice, be extremely careful...My second and third child are 8 months and 4 days apart. When you get pregnant so soon after delivery, your body goes through hell and chances are you won't be healed enough to carry the baby to term, like me, I delivered at 29 weeks. Preemies are not fun.

the dr tells you to wait 6 weeks so you dont break the stitches and give your body time to heal. i would wait without having sex for a week because you could already be pregnant again unless he used a condom, have a test if it is negitive start the pill ASAP

Its rare to get pregnant within the first 10 weeks of conception, but if you are having sex, use condoms until your cervix is closed or you may get an infection, you'll know when its closed usually by your 6 week postpartum appt. you should wait on the bc because your hormones are trying to resume to your pre-pregnant stat.

Well, since you didn't listen to your doctor about the six weeks, why do you care about starting birth control in the 'appropriate' time frame, you OBVIOUSLY don't care what your doctor advised you to do.
