No, it's OK as long as you do it voluntarily. My dog got tattooed when I adopted her from the animal shelter--I don't have any tattoos and my dog has three! It can help bring them back if they get lost or stolen. People shouldn't be chipped, but pets have to be taken care of by their owners and if it'll help you reclaim them, then go ahead. Apparently, it doesn't hurt much and it only costs about 10 or 15 bucks--it's better than losing the little poopers and never seeing them again because nobody knew they were yours.
