boil it for 5 or 6 minutes... NO MORE THAN THAT. then cut it in half and let it cool for maybe 10 minutes. then you take a spoon and just spoon it out and eat it like you would a kiwi. then you take the spikey part that you didn't eat, and wear it like a hat.
i'll make it for you one day, babe.

Nopales or nopalitos are derived from the small new pads on a prickly pear cactus and are nearly spineless. Generally the Opuntia ficus-indica, although nearly all the prickly pear cacti are edible. They are a farm crop in parts of Mexico. Dried they are nopalitos and when reconstituted are often eaten with eggs. They are scraped with a knife under running water to remove the fine hairlike spines and protuberances, and the edges are usually trimmed. They can be eaten raw, and are often pickled. You can buy then fresh, or canned (julienned or diced). The texture is somewhat like a green bean and has a something of a lemony/limey flavor. They are a great addition to a green salad, your tuna salad or your breakfast burrito.

Cactuses are a food source for a lot of people. People eat cactus fruits or grind the seeds into a meal for cakes.
The fruits of prickly pear are juicy and edible. They must be carefully peeled before eaten. Some people also gather, cook, and eat the pads of prickly pear as a vegetable.

In Arizona they make a candy out of cactus. Obviously the spines are removed. The cacti are cut into chunks, boiled in sugar water and then coated with sugar. Delicious! It's done pretty much the same way we make orange and grapefruit peel candies.

you take the spikes off. slice it about the size of your palm. cut strips of it like your fingers. no cutting all the way. the cactus should look like your hand.
put it on the grill and then eat them with salt.
my parents love cactus, we're latino so we call them nopales. they eat them in vinegar too. i personally don't like cactus.
cactus shakes are supposed to be healthy for your body...

Babylon Dic. says it's "Indian fig", maybe that's another type of plant which has the same name with the cactus we know.
