I've just answered the same question earlier with this, please try it:
I smoked for many years, in fact I was a professional smoker. I gave them up In January 2005.
Two things I found I needed, firstly the determination to stop----YOU MUST WANT TO QUIT, secondly something to take away the cravings, having tried everything else down through the years I found the patches to be a great success, 15mg at the start then down to 10mg and finish off with 5mg.
A year and a half later I wouln't touch a cigarette and if you succeed NEVER PUT A CIGARETTE IN YOUR MOUTH AGAIN.
It's not easy but I promise you it will be worth it in the end --plus don't forget to save the money and treat yourself every now and then.
I wish you the very best of luck.

I know exactly how you feel! It was very hard for me. But my dr. helped me. Talking with your Dr. can help alot. I was a 2 pack a day smoker. I got it down between 5 and 10 per day. Believe me, I felt like I was an awful person, but I know for a fact that I am not and neither are you. Nicotine is a drug! Both my kids where born healthy and at a good weight. My suggestion is if you can't quit all the way, cut it down to a minimun and forgive yourself. After you deliver, when you are able to have assistance like the patch or the Zyban or something, do it not only for you but for your child. They are gonna want you to run and play, and if your out of breathe it will be hard for you. Thats where I am right now. I wanna see my children get married and have their babies.

I am attaching a couple links for you from my dr.'s website. Hopefully it can help you on your path. Good luck to you and your new lil' one.

I quit the day i found out I was pregnant, and I was smoking a pack a dayfor 15 years...But I was shown a baby in the womb on this video years ago and a mother was smoking and every time she took a drag the baby in the womb would shake because it limits the baby's oxygen . It was the most horrible thing to see.

You probably wont be able to completely quit and that is ok. The best you can do is limit it as much as possible and always remember that the smoke is going straight to the womb.... I smoked during both my pregnancies, im not a bad person it is just that it is hard to quit and to be honest the stress of quitting is not so great for the baby either! Just do your best.

My Dr actually told me it would be very hard on my baby if I had quit cold turkey while preg. I didnt stop completely but I did cut down greatly (from almost 2 packs a day down to about 1/2 pack a day) but you should talk to your Dr. about some alternatives to help you quit. By the way my Dr. told me that about 8 weeks into it and said the nicotine withdrawals I would go through my baby would go through similar ones and it would be hard on the babys body at that age of development, but still said I should cut down then quit.

I smoked while pregnant I thought it was to hard to quit also. my daughter was born premature with undeveloped lungs , I fingered my mother smoked when pregnant with me and i turned out healthy , but my daughter wasn't that lucky, I brought her home with a heart monitor and oxygen tanks , it's a gamble to smoke while pregnant I still smoke now , I've know lots of my friends to just quit the moment they found out they were pregnant, I look up to them there stronger then me.I don't have much advice on quiting, just try, and think of your baby, Good Luck!

Sometimes quitting smoking in pregnancy is more detrimental than continuing, see your doctor before you quit cold turkey the stress and cravings could be to much for early pregnancy.

For goodness sake, JUST STOP. If your baby is born with defects or other health problems you will have to live with it for the rest of your life that you smoked while pregnant and that's why your child is disabled.

I am sure you seen those commercials about smoking and being pregnant...when you smoke so does your baby. If you love your baby then quit. It is hard but you can do it if you just motivate yourself and do it for your baby.
