My cousin tells me that President Bush signed this thing so that everyone on 2008 has to get this chip somewhere in their body so that in can be scanned and people can identify you and if you refuse the chip and get killed for it you go to heaven and I'm am just plain confused about the rapture and the mark of the beast.

The mark of the beast is his ridiculous and/or outrageous recommendations in his policies.

I don't know anything about the President Bush thing, but I can say this.....The Mark of the Beast is something that won't be administered by the Antichrist until approximately halfway through the Tribulation period after the Rapture. Since the Tribulation is a period of seven years, it would be about 3.5 years after the Rapture that this takes place. 2008 wouldn't fall into that time frame because it's less than 1.5 years away, and the Rapture hasn't occurred yet. Besides, we need to concentrate on being ready to go to Heaven now! If we're concentrating on trying to live through the Tribulation, what happens if we die in our sins in a car wreck tomorrow? None of the things we talked about here will matter for we'll face the same judgment as those who take the Mark, who survive the Tribulation, and etc....

Okay, here's the thing: no, you're not going to be getting imprinted with a microchip in 2008 (or any other time in the forseeable future, for that matter). The only current trials being undertaken with regard to implanted chips in the population are being conducted by an Insurance company...and even then it's currently on high-risk health insurance customers - those with extreme medical conditions which might prevent them from being able to answer an Emergency Room doctor or nurse's questions.

As for the "Mark of the Beast", it's been widely interpreted over the 1,600 years or so since St. John the Divine jotted down his vision of the End of Days on the island of Patmos. Some say it's the "number of the beast" or 666, others say it's a design incorporating this number, while not actually being a literal numeric designation. In any event, the purpose of such a mark is to allow all who bear it to conduct business during the end times, and was to be plainly visible - with some interpretations of John's words going so far as to say the mark was to be placed upon its bearer's head.

Whatever John's meaning, it really comes down to the same thing: we're not getting microchips implanted any time soon.

I'll answer that. The chip your cousin is talking about is the verichip. It supposedly was created to identify illness in the body but has other purposes, such as tracking down someone who is missing. In the bible it says that you would have get mark to buy or sell anything, and the devil at first will cause you to take it.And those who dont will either be jailed,or behead (beheaded because in the last days the official religion in the world will be islam). The rapture will happen duing the tribulation, while the christians are being persecuted. But never mind that, Are you prepared for christ second coming and the events that will happen? If your not saved,You have to know jesus to be saved. The evidence is everywhere, Dont waste time. repent and trust in jesus before its too late. And Dont mind the athiest and the agnostics that are here. They'll tell you there is not a god.You just get prepared my friend.

The "mark of the beast" is supposedly the number 666, or the Greek letters XES, or possibly the number 626.

I think you and your cousin are the victim of an urban legend. If the FBI can't figure out that the Taliban and Al Qaeda are dangerous terrorist organizations, how could they possibly implant chips in people? Gimme a break.

The Rapture is a fairly recent religious myth with no Biblical basis--check out the Millerites if you want more info, or the Mormon (they prefer LDS) history.

Folklore will say that it is "666". Where that came from; who knows? As far as the chip thing goes: there are already ID chips being utilized out there. I don't have a source to cite other than a news report some time within the last year.

If something like that becomes mandatory, we are all in deep doo doo. There will be such a revolution to protect our indvidual privacy rights. I think the only rapture will be people fighting each other over this issue.

Heaven/Hell and all that stuff...personal beliefs. If you choose to believe it, so be it.

This is incorrect.

Your cousin got this misconstrued information from Revelations in the Christrian New Testament which states that the Beast (Satan) will put his mark (666) on his followers.

Many religious people speculate that this may happen in the following years if major companies (or Bush from what I hear now) want to implant a device on humans as a form of payment (concept similiar to possibly a Exxon Speedpass???) And this is how the mark of the beast will be put upon us.

Don't believe it, the Bible is mostly figurative and should not be taken literally. The government is not going to impant devices on us. Read the Bible with a grain of salt. And tell your cousin he sounds just plain fanatical.

That has been introduced and rejected many times in the last twenty years.
I even read a News Week artical four years ago that stated big business wanted to implant their workers that travelled overseas so they could be tracked in case of emergency.
I even seen a picture in the paper once 12 years ago that looked like a Israeli scanning Lebanese workers with a hand held device.
That was in the Detroit Free Press.
They do it to peoples pets all the time, now that it is indoctrinated into mainstream thinking they could push for it.
Oh and by the way. There is a computer that has all the information on eveyone in the world, It is called the beast.
I saw that on the discovery channel.

The mark of the beast is said to be stamped with the number 666. Everyone who doesn't get caught up in the Rapture and go to heaven will bare this mark according to the Book of Revelations.

I haven't heard that the president has signed this bill or promotes "the chip" but I did just discuss this with my preacher and it is in the Bible.Christians are to refuse this because it says in the Bible to not be marked as flesh. The mark of the beast is the number 666.During the rapture you will not be able to go to heaven with this chip.If so I won't let it happen and i know that for sure.Nor will i allow my children to be "chipped" and my husband will not. This is interesting.I hope this helps you.

The exact form the mark will take is not known, given some of the things the bible says about it scholoars *think* it could be a chip, tatoo or something else.
I don't pretend to have any insight other than:
1. don't worry about it, when it gets here then deal with it.
2. IMO, its going to be a tatoo or a brand as the anti-christ will want to control for controls sake everyone.
3. Keep in mind that some people said the same thing about credit cards.
