The Hollywood sign is in Giffith Park (where the newly remodeled observatory is)---It is not too far from Pasadena (in L. A. terms)--It is on your map about half way between Burbank and West Holywood--on the top of the highest hill (mountain?)between the 101 and Interstate 5.---There just isn't any direct road...I would go to Hollywood and start from there to keep it simple....

110 S to 101 N. Take Hollywood Blvd exit turn left (west). Right on Gower, right on Franklin, left on Beachwood. Left on Ledgewood, right on Deronda. That will dead end and there is a gate on your right. Go through gate and hike up trail. You will end up behind the sign.

Go to Griffith park (exit the 5 at Los Feliz) and hike up.
