I've been on this pain killer for 10 or more years [all Dr prescribed] but I need to pass a Medical for my pilots license and the FAA web-site lists Vicodone as one [of many] drugs that you may not take.
I have tried cold turkey but my Back Pain won't let up.
Already tried Epidural and it worked for two days.
My brother had surgery for the same thing and is in a wheel chair after 3 operations.
Any help would be appreciated.
All my medical help has come from MD's and my insurance pays for it.

I also have a back injury and have been on meds for a year also dr perscribed. If im not mistaking as long as you tell the person doing your drug screen that this is perscribed by a dr and you have proof of that they will not do anything about it.my husband also takes vicodine for a back injury and gets random drug tests at his job,he tells them when they are doing the screen and they do or say nothing because it is perscribed by a dr. Unless this is against your companys policy and you wont be able to get a job with taking it i would suggest speaking with your dr.there are other methods of pain releiver.talk to your dr he will help you i would hope.im sorry to hear about your brother and that happens to a lot of people with back injury.i definatly would not have the surgery. good luck.

Taper down to zero in a month, then suffer through a month using ice for relief, until you can pass the test - I don't know how long it will take exactly, always use a DR for supervision of medical problems.

Your best bet would be to go to a pain management clinic. They can help you find effective, non-narcotic, non-surgical ways to manage your back pain, and also help you taper off the Vicodin gradually, so that you can stop using it without having withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor can give you a referral so that your insurance will cover it.
