They would lose the name recognition if they called it the half pounder - it would sound like a whole new sandwich. This way they can keep their marketing pretty much the same and they imply that it is just more of the same great sandwich.

Although I admire your ability to add fractions, I think it's called a double-quarter pounder because it's two quarter-pounders, not a single half-pounder.

dont try to sound smart. they call it a double quarter pounder because its two patties each weighing a quarter of a pound. they cant call it a half pounder unless it was one patty that weighed half a pound!

They call it a double quarter punder as you are getting two quarter pounder burgers (if thats what you want to call them). I am glad Laura agrees to as she just changed to answer to replicate mine. Cheers.

bc they like the way "quarter" sounds when u say it. besides, they only have to add the word "double" to the menu and they'd have to scratch "quarter" altogether.
