I don't know how people can say that Lewis retired because he was scared of Klitschko that is a joke if any of you watch the fight back it wasn't as one sided as people are making out, i remember that Lewis was starting to look tired and he might of been losing just on the cards but if anyone was going to get knocked out it was Klitschko and has everyone forgot that Lewis had beat everybody that had been put in front of him for years. There was no one left in the division for him to beat that was the true reason he retired, what did a rematch prove he was only on a loser, If Lewis won everyone would of said well he already beat him anyway, what was the point.

Hey John, I respect everyones opinion, however, the facts are the facts. At the end of the day, a "W" is still a "W". Lewis did win the fight and 20 years from now, that's exactly what our kids will see in the books. No one can say for sure what would have happened in the rematch, but, based on his history in rematches, he kicked butt. Ask crybaby, Oliver McCall, Hasim Rahman, or, ol' man Holyfield. Folks who do not understand that Lewis won the fight either do not understand boxing, or, were simply cheering for Klitschko and don't want to call it like it is. I guarantee you if the roles were reversed they'd gladly accept the fact that Klitschko won. Anyway this is a good topic. Make sure you catch Friday Night Fights on ESPN tonight. Sultan Ibragimov seems to have the right stuff. A big lefty with hands a plenty. Check out his punch output and connects.

Maybe, maybe not. Lewis is a smart fighter with a strong jab. If you look at his best victories they came against shorter fighters who could not get inside of Lewis' reach. Klitchko didn't have that problem. Even though Klitchko was cut badly there is no question he was dominating the fight in a way that cannot be explained away by saying the Lewis didn't take it seriously enough. I think in a rematch Klitchko would have likely won.

what people forget lewis was coming to the end of his game was this any excuse on how he fought that night no but if you looked at klitchko before this fight his recored was padded a bit and most of his fights were in germany were ya need about 12 judges who arnt blind to win there. you could see if your a boxing fan lewis was heavy and dint look his cut self. so did he under estimate him yes he did. like they say its harder to defend your title than to win it people that say lewis fought smaller men people forget most fighters or heavy weights are still nearly 6 foot tall tyson 5,11 so ther not that small just lewis was about 6,3 6,4 the end of the day lewis won the fight cuts or not in the 7 round lewis looked tired but he was catchin kiitchko with some great shots ( especially the upper cuts) and kiltchko looked tired 2 so yes lewis whould of stopped him in another round or 2 fact why did klitchko demand the re match simple fact money lewis was the only big pay day out there he needed lewis not the other way round lewis had nothing to prove he beat everbody put in front o him inc the 2 fights he lost he revenged them in big style and the holly field fight less said the better look at the fight klitchko now after his 2 defences he new he didt have long left in the game that why he wanted lewis no other reason and now we have his brother big joy (not)

The fact is that most people find Lennox Lewis to be extremely boring. Vitali Klitschko isn't really that exciting himself, but he was able to win over a lot of fans, and his courage in that fight was inspiring to many. People usually say that whoever they were rooting for is who won the fight if there's any possibility of believing it. Not everybody sees a cut as the fault of the fighter who ends up losing because of it so they're kind of offended when the fight is stopped too.
Yes, it does count as a win, but since Lewis retired afterwards, a lot of people took that as meaning he was scared of Klitschko, which reinforced the opinion that Vitali was the better fighter. Unfortunately, we'll never really know what would have happened in a rematch.

The cut over Klitchko's eye didn't appear there by magic. Lewis put it there. Both Klitchkos are overrated bums. Both quit against supposedly lesser opponents.

i agree lewis probably would have beaten klitchko if they had a rematch.both times lewis got ko'd it was because he did not train hard, but when he trained with revenge or anger in mind he blew his opponent out of the ring.by the way klitchko didn't get those two hideous cuts from nowhere lewis cut him.

So if Lewis could've trained harder and taken him more seriously, why didn't he? He did have the option for a rematch, right? Face it, he didn't want anymore of Klitschko.

Well,John,I am going to have to disagree.I watched that fight, and that cut was not so bad that the fight couldn't have continued.Im sure that somewhere down inside,Lennox Lewis was relieved.Had the fight gone on,Klitchsko would have won.

He was actually behind in points but yes, he won. That cut's really bad and it was a wise decision by the ref or the doctor to stop it before more damage could be inflicted upon him.
