Go to myfooddiary.com-it costs you 9 per month, but it is sooo helpful, it will tell you how many calories you can consume for the day based on the weight you are currently and your ideal weight. ALso, you input the calories you consumed each meal(they have a whole database of foods) and it will tell you how many calories you have left to use for the day in order to lose weight and/ or maintain the weight you are at now. I eat around 1000-1200 but I exercise enough to burn off at least half.
Low calories and good exercise is the best way to lose weight and gain muscle I have been doing it for 2 years now.

There is not set amount of calories that would fit every person. It is all dependent on your size, fitness level, activity level, etc. Instead of focusing on calories, which are much harder to keep track of - you should be focusing on what you eat, how much you eat, and how often you exercise.

how many do you need to maintain your body weight? then consume a few hundred less than that. it all depends on how much you weigh and how active your life style is.
